From what I understand, DNA found on this victim doesn't match Clark's, but rather a man named Floyd Arnold and was found at two later rapes.

The death penalty works in a limited fashion, in that it prevents individual people from committing the capital offense again, but it doesn't seem to be deterring people from committing the crimes.

As a practical matter..we don't have a death penalty in this country..n ot when less than 1 in a thousand murderes get the death penalty. I just don't buy that argument. I honestly believe that "If" I had a mind to kill someone, I would consider that I woujld not be put to death.


And taking what you said one step further. Systematic and certain execution would save many, many more lives bc it would prevent so many more killers from going free to kill again.

And I feel that the this guy is not owed anything. He has already received 3 squares a day, good living conditions, best medical care available, the opportunity to pursue reading and not working for years, etc. Certainly my views are not mainstream..and I will never argue that they are right. Its just the way I feel.

As the originator of this thread, what do you suggest as this man's remedy? And, if the remedy is money, who should pay? The taxpayers or the crime vicim who pressed charges?

Al, are you kidding? Would you like to spend 24 years of your life in "good living conditions" etc. instead of being free?
About the death penalty, I have idea, but it would be interesting to see crime statistics from countries which have it vs. those that don't.
The young guy that was exceuted in Singapore last week probably knew what would happen if he got caught carrying heroin, but he did it anyway. I guess people think they won't get caught or something.
Yes, I think death is a pretty harsh penalty for holding 14 grams of smack.

I don't have a good answer, but I guess the money would ultimately come from taxpayers, as it does for most everything else.

If we're willing to ue taxpayer money to put him away for life or thereabouts, we should also be willing to pay compensation. But no matter what let's keep pretending that it's ok to execute people with pur 'perfect system'.
