Where's the 0W-20 for my new Honda V-6?

Use the M1 0w-20 or the Valvoline Synpower 0w-20. The M1 is available everywhere, while the Synpower is available at Pep Boys. Our Fit has been running M1 0w-20 for 2 oil changes now, and we've had nothing bad to say about it.

I had a good UOA wear-metal-wise (a bit high on fuel thanks to user error in sampling I think) on M1 0w-20 recently.

Thanks to all.

I'm also looking at the Honda brand oils. The 0W-20 costs twice that of the 5W-20 suggesting the former is fully syn but both labels describe the products identically as "synthetic blends". Anyone know where I can find authentic specs? Believe me, I've searched.

Once upon a time, I used to go to WalMart for oil changes on my cars, and frequently neglected to do even that. Long story short, I had a couple of 10K-12K OCIs on my 2000 Ford Taurus SEL.

Fast forward to today, my Taurus is 11.5 years old and 172K. It still runs great on the original engine and tranny. It developed a slight oil leak around the pan and loses/burns 1/2 qt every 3K miles but that's about it.

I would not worry about following the OLM using any of the great oils mentioned in this thread.

There are 3 part numbers for Honda's 0W20, so at least for now the original 0W20 synthetic is still available. The full synthetic was made by Idemitsu in Indiana (08798-9029), and there are two new 0W20's made by ConocoPhillips, a blend and a full sythetic: (08798-9036 and -9037). I don't think anyone knows much about the CP Honda oils at this point.

The Toyota 0W20 (made by XOM) seems pretty close in spec to the Honda synthetic, and is probably worth consideration also:

Thank you. This is good info. I am looking at ordering a case online. One would think the stuff being offered for $5.xx per quart would be a full syn but apparently it is part# -36, a blend. I wonder why it is nearly twice the price of the 5W-20?

The Walmart near me carries the 0W-20 SynPower as well, and only in the quart bottles. That makes two 0W-20 choices at Walmart, M1 and Valvoline, both in quart bottles only at this point.

I'm looking forward to wider 0W-20 selection in the future, from some more of the majors (thinking PP/PU, QSUD, and Edge here).

I'd love to see PP 0W20, and Pennzoil eventually start offering PU in 0w20 and 0W30, wishful thinking on my part. PP 0W20 has been out for quite a while and is nowhere to be found. I'm not going to pay shipping costs on oil anymore, seems PP 0w20 is only available online, at least to me.

I emailed Pennzoil and asked them, "where is the Ultra 0W-20 you promised BITOG?" I told them I was ready to buy especially if they came with 5qt jugs. They simply responded that they were sorry it is not available yet, try PP. Which, as demarpaint rightfully observes, is on no retailer's shelves. Don't these guys realize all the Honda and Toy owners that need this weight syn?

Anyway, I finally decided to take the easy way out and mail ordered a couple of changes worth of Honda full synthetic (9037), a six pack of filters and washers and an air filter. What size filter wrench do these OE filters take. I didn't cough up the $18 bucks for Honda's "custom" wrench cap as I'm hoping one of the several I already own fit it. A shout out to JOD for helping me with the part numbers. I guess I got the CP syn. Now I can change the FF when I want to. Heck with that MM on the first change!

Got my mail-order today--great service. This Honda full syn part# 9037 looks like the real McCoy--SN, GF-5. JOD, I guess you were right must be the new CP stuff. I got a six pack of OE oil filters and the vendor includes free drain plug washers. I know they aren't worth much but it's still a nice touch. I also got an OE air filter which looks pretty stout. So now I'm ready to pamper her new car. I doubt I'm going to be able to stand leaving thet FF in there no matter what the OLM says!

You're right on the price discrepancy.

You have to wonder if the 0w20 is actually a blend and not a full synthetic.

The 5w20 blend is ~$3 while the 5w20 "Ultimate Full Synthetic" is ~$6.

The 0w20 blend on the other hand is ~$6.
