I've had them at the Roy Rogers Fixin's bar and there is Peruvian place here that makes an onion salad with them, but when I get one from the supermarket, they are much too strong to eat raw. What am I missing?

These are real good on the side.I like pickled red onions. But you could soak them in water.

You know what to do next time.Soaking in water did help make them milder. And the inside of the refrigerator smells nice too.
