Where to get a new magnetic oil plug?

I'm still using my original OEM oil plug and its original washer/gasket on my car with 105K miles on it. Is that acceptable or should I get a new plug and/or new washer/gasket for it?

I'm thinking of getting a new magnetic oil plug. I've heard they exist. Are they commonly available at autostores or online? Does brand matter?

I just bought one for my Gladiator on Amazon today. I´ve had one in my Wrangler for years.

I bought a Votex today, which is made in the USA. There are stainless steel and aluminum options. I like stainless for its strength over the aluminum. There are a lot of cheapo plugs on there, too, so watch for that.

If it's that 1997 Park Avenue, then there's a Dorman magnetic plug with seal on RockAuto for $3.46.

I bought a Goldplug magnetic drainplug from Amazon. I also bought a set/pair of Filtermage SS to put on my oil filter. The Filtermag wrap around oil filter.

One thing I like about a pair of Filtermag magnets is I can put them on my oil filter immediately. I won't be able to install my Goldplug until my next oil change, which will be far in the future.

I just ordered two. Both the M14 and M12 were about $2 cheaper on GoldPlug's own site and free shipping. As an added bonus -- er I mean travesty -- sales tax wasn't charged. But they may yet amend the PP transaction. If they don't, I of course have made a note to claim the use tax on next year's return

Good to know. I wish I'd known those things before I ordered a Goldplug.

My main concern though is this... Which is best at retaining its magnet in the end of the bolt? If magnet detaches from bolt it would probably end up harmleslessly stuck to oil pickup screen, but it wouldn't be any help there.

I’m not concerned about detachment. Epoxy glues are strong.

So you think detachment is a non-issue with Dimple, Votex, Goldplug?

NAPA carries some sizes of magnetic drain bolts and washers.

I have a Dimple that fits 2 different cars and it caught nothing. Felt like a solution looking for a problem ... unlike my rear diff and ATF factory magnetic plugs.

Very high quality and very strong magnet and it came with 2 or 3 washers but it's somewhere in the garage and I'm back to the OEM plug.

Gold plug is just fine. I have both Votex and Gold Plug and from the way it sticks to the oil pan, I can´t tell a difference in the strength of the magnet.

IMO it's main purpose is less about cleaning oil and more about providing a visual cue you can look at during oil changes to get information. If you see no metal on it that's a good sign. If you do see metal on it, the size and amount of metal particles provides a warning and some clues.

Why did you stop using your Dimple? It's paid for. Why not use it?

Looks to me like Dimple might be out of business. Votex doesn't make a drain plug for Buick Park Ave.

So for a quality American made magnetic drain plug for a Buick Park Ave, Goldplug is the only option that I know of.
