People always discuss 0w20 in US but in Europe the same car specs 5w40, or whatever. I've tried a couple Google searches...how do you find the "non US" oil specs?

Thanks! Weird they recommend from 0w20 to 5w40 to 10w30. Kind of proves visco doesn't matter much in many cars...

Exactly ….. I had a quick look for a random common car on the valvoline link above, I searched on a Toyota Corolla, 2007-2013, 1.8L (2ZR-FE) and the said to use any of: 0W-20, 5w30, 10w30, 10W-40 and 15w40.

I suspect most people in Australia would be using the last two listed, and hardly anybody would be using the first one listed. I'm going through a "lite" phase right now, and getting into 5w30 and 10w30 (after I use up my stash of xW-40).

The Shell site was interesting because you could select your country, normally we use use NZ which just defaults to Aust. For my Volvo here they recommend 10W40 or 15W40, UK 10W40...and the US, 10W30. They certainly want you to use a lighter oil in the US.

For my G37, the Australian Castrol and Shell sites call for only the ILSAC 5w30. The Canadian Castrol site would let me get away with a dexos2 5w30, since the manual really doesn't require an ILSAC oil. API SM is the spec, with ILSAC being allowed. The Australian Castrol and Valvoline sites go for an A3/B4 if I call it a 370Z, for some reason.

The Australian Jeep Cherokee 4.0 takes 5/10w40.

Nice.

I'd say your guys' climate is comparable to the Midwest's with the exception of our frigid late winter temps.

It's not a reflection of how they expect it to be driven, is it ???

Ford Mustang 5.0L V8 is 5w30 in Australia

Jeep Patriot 2.4 L I4 is 5W-40 or 5w30.

And yes you can buy 5W-20 oil here in Australia, it's easy to find. It's just not many people decide to use it. Most manufacturers give you a fairly wide choice of what you can use, then the owner decides (based on local conditions and driving style ). Most of the garages around me, their default bulk oil is a 10W-40 semi-synthetic ( A3/B4 ), followed by a 5w30 GF-5 semi-synthetic or a 15w40 mineral (A3/B3).

I'd almost think it was, since it is the same engine, and same oil requirements in North America between the two models. I drive the G37 like a grandma, so I'm sure that 5w30 SN/GF-5 is more than enough. Besides, there is a limp mode in these engines (in both cars) if the oil gets too hot.

The Shell one above allows a choice of location, including places in Asia like Indonesia
