i know ive posted a lot today. well i need a new knife a good one i usually buy 30 dollar buck knives or similar quality well i now need a better knife im constantly having issues with my knife falling out of my pocket. because of the awful clip. trouble is i really dont know where to look to find a large selection of knives. where should i go what do you recommend?

I'm kind of a knife nut. In a good way. I like the metalurgy, and different styles, Custom stuff, and leatherwork.
It's really more of functional art than it is "just a knife".

They're going to have some really knowledgable guys, and some great ideas/recommendations about what's best for everyday carry (EDC). Theres crazy arguments on blade steels, etc (very much like our "synthetic vs dino" threads here...those dudes have far more experience than I can give you.
Depending on where you are in Missouri, Bass Pro Shops in Springfield has a great selection of knives from $10 to $500
When I was in the Army my favorite pocket knives were a Benchmade Griptilian ($80), a Spyderco Native ($50), and a Spyderco Military ($125), which are a little more on the expensive side.
also the Spyderco Delica and Endura were decent knives but they're targeting more of a different market.
Regarding brands most common used in the army....Gerber, Benchmade, CRKT, SOG, Spyderco, Boker, and KaBar seemed to be the most knives used. Of course saying which is best is like arguing Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge and resulted on more than one altercation in my unit.
I'm rather biased toward Spyderco because when I was deployed to Iraq, one of the Spyderco forum members organized some Spyderco collectors and they began sending us knives as gifts...which were greatly appreciated. (In fact, the Spyderco Native thats one of my fav's was an AWESOME gift)...give Kudos to the Spyderco guys
Right now I carry either the Spyderco Native or the Benchmade Griptilian. (Had both about 6 years now). Clips are still in great shape and they don't slip out of my pocket.

I buy my knives from a Local Army Surplus Store. So IDK.
I figure Military Grade knives used for a good price is worth it. Some clean up really really well too! Have a Gerber knife here, was a rust bucket, they found it in the glove box of an old non working frozen vietnam jeep they got at an auction or something which they painted and put in front of the store. it was about 2$ rusted to all [censored], few MMO baths and other oiling with used motor oil, some sharpening and grinding, it looks good. Of course they sell newer stuff, lightly worn for cheap too!

Does you knife have to be exposed when you carry it? is it kinda large? There are all sorts of laws.

How far do you live from St. Louis? There's agreat little knife store on the outer road near Troy, Il. off from I 55-70. Here is their web site. I have purchased two knives from them, one within 6 weeks ago.

I know nothing about knife stores, but I know that John Belushi ran one wicked "Scotch Tape Store" on Saturday Night Live. I always wanted to purchase some double-sided tape at his shop, but could never find the place, so I had to buy at Office Depot instead.
2 inexpensive knives I recommend are the Kershaw Leek and Needs work, actually any of the US made Kershaws are really good knives. If you are going to become a automotive tech you will want to stop carrying a knife clipped on your pocket, the pocket clips will scrape the paint off of cars when working on them.
