I suspect that the further west and east you go from Ottawa ON, the more likely it is that you probably will see border crossings occurring.

They're not going to open it until 50+ percent of people have a second dose. July 21 should be close to that number...

Personally I plan on hopefully going overseas in September or October, but I will probably only do that if dual vaccinations don't have any quarantine or testing requirements.

Reported this evening that Canada will have enough doses for second shots to anyone that wants them by end of July. I would be very surprised if border closure goes beyond July 21.

There is a difference in that Canada has emergency use of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, but the US doesn't. They're gladly taking the AZ vaccine from US stockpiles. And who knows if they'll ever be approved in the US, so why not let the Canadians have them before they expire?

There are some venues in the US that will allow fully vaccinated individuals, but only if they've been vaccinated with a vaccine that's received an US emergency use authorization. This article mentions the a mayor in British Columbia who would like to attend a Broadway show, but where the venue wants to see a vaccination for J&J, Moderna, or Pfizer-BioNTech.

Trudeau's commitment comes at a time when some U.S. venues are already suggesting they will only allow people who've been fully vaccinated with a United States Food and Drug Administration-approved product — the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines — to attend certain events unencumbered.
While AstraZeneca shots are made at some U.S. facilities, the FDA has never approved it for use in the American marketplace.
Some private entities, like Broadway shows and TV production studios, have signalled they will keep AstraZeneca recipients out.
One B.C. mayor was surprised to learn he couldn't attend a performance of Springsteen on Broadway in New York City because the venue operator, Jujamcyn Theaters, is limiting attendance to those who've had the mRNA shots or a shot of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

He can still cross the border if he flies. If he is double vacc'ed he doesn't need to quarantine either as of July 1, just needs a negative test.

WRONG. In May, My buddy and wife shipped their car, Toronto to Eustis Florida. Then flew to Daytona. Stayed in Florida for four weeks. Got Vaccinated while here, Pfizer, both shots. Before the drive back, got Covid tests. Not the cheap test, but the expensive test that is recognized by Canada. Got to border and had to take an additional Covid rapid test, right there at the border. even though they got one in Florida 48 Hours earlier. Then allowed to drive home to Kitchener, HOWEVER, they had to quarantine for two weeks. After eight days of quarantine, they had to take an additional Covid test at home, watched over online by Ontario staff. Then they had to send the test to some government agency, via Purollator, (shipping company). Never heard back from government, never heard of Covid tests results. Never had anyone come to house to check if they were following quarantine rules.
After 14 days of quarantine, following all the rules, they finally were going out again.

I don't like private entities getting into the healthcare decision making process. There are various reasons why the FDA might not grant EUA or full approval and efficacy might not be the reason for denial. The risk of side-effects, quality issues at the manufacturing facilities, issues with the application itself, etc. Canada plans to manufacture millions of doses of Novavax Covid-19 vaccine. This vaccine seems efficacious. Why should Jujamcyn override Health Canada in deciding what vaccine is acceptable.

At this point we’re tampering with politics. The Canadian government didn’t want Canadians flying to the States to bypass the queue. You said this was May. Canada was having trouble getting vaccines back in May. Jimmy Russels is correct, we now have enough vaccine , and the concept of vaccination proof is alive and well and will be responded to. It’s just a different context here. We have a wealthy Canadian jumping the queue back in May. He had to isolate like everyone else. Queue up! ;)

This is going to be a non issue. There are way, way too many people (millions) in the UK and in Europe who have AZ doses who travel to the US. They will figure something out.
