When will a CEL/MIL turn off by itself?

Some cars go by set # of drive cycles and if the ECU does not detect the fault after a given number of drives cycles it will reset.

Yup. That's what my dodge does. 3 cycles or after 3 cycles. You have to drive it though, you can't just shut it on and off 3 times
