I have a 07 civic ex. Do i check the oil first thing in the mourning after it sat all night or do i check it after i drive it then let it sit for 10 mins...the manual doesnt specify

If it doesn't say, I'm going to assume check it cold.

You could compare the two and see how much difference there is.

On most cars the oil temp isn't critical to the dipstick reading the way it is for an automatic transmission, but you do have to leave it shut off long enough for the oil to drain back to the crankcase. Checking it first thing in the morning should give a reading reasonably close to a hot shut-down, wait 3 minutes, and then check.

Per 2008 Civic coupe manual:

Pull the valve cover, concentrate carefully on the tappet actuation while your buddy revs the engine to 5 grand. You'll get a very close look at it. I chek mine dead cold in the morning about 1x/wk. The hard part is getting the car on a level surface. Our Toyota does not like a wiped stick, the subaru absolutely demands it.

thanks guys.. im still burning a lil mobil 1 but it cuz i rev the car a lot.. im taking a long trip to canada from jersey next wednesday so i will be bringa qt with me

The manual should also state to not let the oil level get a whole quart down so you can add a quart! Lot of misinformation out there, my girlfriend is even one of the guilty ones. She thinks no one should add oil but on a change! We also hope that the members who state they go thru a quart of oil every 2000 miles are adding a little every week to keep the level high, not discovering it months later and filling.

A female friend of mine didn't realize she was ALLOWED to add oil between changes. She actually checked her oil, but thought it being low meant it was time for a change...

i love my car and want to keep it for 200,000 miles plus. i will use mobil 1 till the day the car dies. i was going to try an strecth the oil change to after the winter but its already at 40% on the minder so it looks like i will be freezing my rear off changing it in the dead of winter with some 5w20 mobil 1 and a honda oil filter. i usually use fram extented guard but i was at the dealer and just figured i would give a oem one a shot but they ripped me for 9 bucks so its back to fram or maybe a wix next time

Since I traded my Gramd Am oil burner on my 02 Cavalier, I have gotten a little sloppy about doing it. I don't remember having to add oil to either it or my truck since 2002. The stupid Grand Am used about a quart in 1000 miles. I usually topped it off whenever I managed to remember to check it.

With 36k you should consume no oil...try a different brand. I would try PP or QHP.

mobil tends to burn on hondas based on what i see over on honda-tech

try another brand of the same weight...
perhaps syntec, synpower or platinum
cant go wrong with any of these

Check the oil on level ground first thing in the morning. All the oil is in the pan, and the reading is the most accurate. As far as the burning goes next OCI as others mentioned change oil brands.

Wouldn't revving the engine a lot cause it to consume more oil then normal...Revving a engine a lot cannot be good for any engine.
