Goin from a 25mu to an 8mu filter quantified: (kinda) https://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/30697/choose-oil-filter
According to ACdelco going from a 40mu to a 30mu filter cut wear in half and going to a 15mu reduced wear 70%.
Going from a 25mu@96% 45mu absolute to an 8mu@99% 27mu absolute will significantly increase the life of the hydraulics, normal seal wear or corrosion will take it out.
Upgrade to the upgrade. I found a big ole filter head being tossed at work.
I identified it as having a 1.5 inch 16tpi threaded head nipple and taking a 5 inch wide filter. Yeah there's lots of those filters.
Wix lists 120+ of those 1.5-16tpi and most of them have a 5 inch gasket.
So I found a wix 51859. 28gpm 5 micron rating, 18 to 22psid bypass.
That wix 57123 is still on my log splitter and still chops. Still see 10 to 12psi when cold at 60f. Once it gets much above 90f on the fluid temperature gauge I don't really see any reading on the back pressure.
