Hi,
Johnny - Thong sandals are the go here too - but singlets or tops? - you've gotta be joking. It's bare skin with shorts - gloves ? - they don't know what they are either

But this is the Tropics..........................!

And then there's the pillion chicks in bikinis with bare feet

They are about to introduce minimum clothing laws here for Bikers

As a ex-track (velodrome) racing cyclist I can tell you that even concrete or tarmac "burns" are very painfull when you bite the dust

that may be true for some, but it does not apply to all.

Yeah, true but the "some" I see around here would be about 99% of them. The no helmet, wrap around orange sunglasses, high top basketball shoes, shorts and optional shirt or sleeveless shirt is the dead giveaway. I mean dead giveaway in the literal sense.

your right, i deffinately know the type, they ARE squids, and most of them wont be life long motorcyclist. Most of those guys are only on bikes trying to get girls. They have no idea what sportbikes are about. There are always going to be the people from every form of motorcycling that in one way or another find a way to wizz off others. I went through the squid faze, man-o-man i thought i was cool, i look back at where i started and just laugh. although i never wore flip flops

Yes they are ! the shirtless boys will discover what proper riding gear is meant for sooner or later. My personal favorite is the guys around here that where tennis shoes, shorts, leather jacket "track jacket" no gloves and goggles..no helmet...and a bandana.. and they just think they are BAD

Hi,
and the Harley "bad boys" here who ride on the road centre line wearing upturned "toilet pots" for helmets - matt black of course! Favorite Harley groups name? - "Coffin Cheaters" if only they didn't cheat.................

Safety Approved Helmets are compulsory here in Australia

Not everyone is a squid that ride crotch rockets does wheelies and neglect maintenance and personal safety gear. I crashed my 1992 Yamaha FRZ1000 in 2004 and would be dead or without a chin had I not been wearing my helmet. In the ambulance ride to the hospital the paramedics said I was lucky I had on my helmet and jacket. Most of the nurses/doctors at the hospital said the same thing and that I was one of the few motorcycle accident 'victims' that walk out of the hospital abit pretty good road rash.

I always ride with helmet, jacket, gloves, sidi or icon boots, kevlar lined jeans.

Hi,
02zx9r - You said:
"I always ride with helmet, jacket, gloves, sidi or icon boots, kevlar lined jeans."

So do I!

My eldest Son (a good biker) is a Doctor. He said it is the same (as you described comments by Nurses/Doctors) at the Emergency area of the Hospital where he works in New Zealand!

I drove at the Nurburgring (Nordschleife) in May. The bikers there were simply MAD! One was killed the day I was there - it is quite a common result. I saw them doing some simply stupid acts (wrong line thru corners, entry speeds etc etc) - of about 100 or so only a couple seemed to have any idea how to ride a bike on such a challenging closed one way Circuit - let alone on the open road!

Me too, I have been hit by a car years ago. Helmet, leather bomber jacket, heavy boots & jeans. I got up and walked into the ambulance. This was on my Yamaha. Lucky for me the owner of the dealership I bought it from gave all new buyers a free helmet from the "helmet wall" in his shop (you got to pick any one you wanted). He then spent 10 minutes explaining why it was so important for riders to wear one. So my very first day of motorcycling in 1974 was with a helmet. Since then I have only ridden once for 30 minutes without one to see what it was like. I felt naked without it on my head and turned around and went home and put it back on. BTW, I still remember the rash...yuk.

I look like I'm dressed for combat when I ride my Vespa to the corner store to get a loaf of bread. I took to many spills on my Cushman scooters back in the 50's to know better. The good lord was watching over me back in my younger days, that's for sure.

I hear you. I rode once around the block without my helmet, for the same reason, just to see what it is like and I felt, like you said, naked, and it scared the [censored] out of me. You will never see me riding without my helmet. I once rode from Newport to Old Saybrook CT, about 1.5 hours away on a Sunday just to do it, I stopped for lunch at some little diner. The host sat me and said that I was first rider he saw today wearing a helmet. I told him you will never see me without it especially on the highway. I saw maybe 20-30 riderson the highway 70mph + and maybe 5 had on helmets. Just cant see how you can ride without a helmet, especially at highway speeds. Specs of sand, bugs, etc.. hitting you in the face, that hurts!

To each their own. I still wave at riders, no matter what they ride or wear.

This thread got me thinking about the $$ ive spent on gear, this is just my current stuff in the garage, not what ive sold or given away, or worn out.

$800.00 on my Arai rx7
$1200.00 Alpinstar 2 piece race suit
$450.00 Icon Hero street jacket *holds all me deals gap patches*.. will never part with it.
$210 Icon textile street jacket
$230.00 alpinstars gp 1 gauntlet gloves
$59.00 fieldshier gloves
$39,00 icon mesh gloves
$230.00 Sidi B2 boots
$300.00 Sidi vertigo air boots

I wont even bother listing what gear my wife has on the gear rack, you get the idea.. Nobody ever told me rideing was a cheap sport.

"it's not *IF* you go down, it's *WHEN* you go down and how bad it will be!

correct. Most times it will not be your fault. Hopefully you are wearing protective gear when it happens.
