so there are so many high end atf's out there. ive seen maxlife synthetic atf b&m synthetic atf, mobil one synthetic atf, max atf by royal purple. when you want the best how do you choose?

I've used M1 ATF now for 20 years with no transmission or PS pump failures. Normally I do 40K transmission oil changes.

howcome u can put atf in power steering? id love to get my power steering fluid changed out and i have some good atf laying around but ive always been nervous to put atf in there but ive heard its great for power steering systems?

I'd say use any approved Dex 6.
Check this list:
Dex 6 approved list

You could use a Dex 3 in your transmission. That would be what was in there from the factory, but I do believe GM now recommends Dex 6 for all applications.

I used Car quest brand dex 6 atf with a bottle of Lubeguard Red and my transmission is soooo smoooth.

If the Amsoil ATF meets the specs for your transmission then this is the best transmission fluid I have used.

I have used:

1) Mobil 1 ATF
2) Redline D4

The trans just seems to shift the best with Amsoil ATF.

There is not much difference between PS fluid, hydraulic fluid, and ATF.
In forklifts, we used whatever we had - hydraulic or ATF.
Hondas were picky about PS fluid - you could cause premature wear.

Amsoil ATD, Redline D4, and Redline racing have all worked well in my TL.

Differences were:

Amsoil gave much better shifts than Z1, quicker, snappier. As it got hotter shifts would get a little sloppier but still much better than Z1.

Redline D4 seemed to have less of a change from cold to hot. It shifts slightly slighly softer when cold but maintains the quality as it gets summer time hot.

Redline Racing.... Totally different fluid, the best shifts yet, not too firm but very quick.

You can use ATF if your pump calls for it. Fords do and I have never had a pump failure using ATF.
