What's wrong with my daughter's 2013 Ford Edge?

For several years now on an intermittent basis, the Edge's climate control loses its mind. When this happens in the summer, hot air will blow from the driver's side vents and cold AC will blow from the passenger side vents. In the winter, IIRC the problem is cold air on driver's side and heat on passenger side. The short term fix for this is to turn the ignition on without starting, press climate button and defrost button at same time, release both buttons, and press climate button twice. This performs some sort of reset after which the climate control works correctly for an unspecified period of time until it happens again. It has happened more this year than in any previous year.

What does the BITOG crew think the problem is?

I had a similar problem and didn't know about the reset at the time so I replaced the driver side blend door actuator and it fixed the problem. The driver side actuator is a real pain to reach and get the linkage hooked up. Took two attempts to get it right.

My wife had a '12 and a '14.
The '14 had this issue.
She sold it last Nov.

My problem with Ford on these cars is there are several things, across several model years that are common failures.
Blend door, shifter not indicating park, some evap failure that's on top of the fuel tank, doors not indicating that they are closed ect.

You would think at some point they would fix that stuff.
They are good cars otherwise.

She drives an Acura now.

Ordered a replacement blend door actuator today, and a 1/4" drive screwdriver bit for the job. Space is way too limited to get a regular screwdriver in there. Hopefully I'll get in replaced one evening next week.

I couldn't swear to this but I don't remember having to use a screwdriver bit in changing mine. My recollection is the Edge was like all the cars I've had to make replacements on and it had little 6-7 mm hex head screws. The best combo I've found for working in those tight places is a 1/4 inch swivel head fine click rachet with deep sockets.

The 2013 Edge actuator is attached with 3 phillips head screws. I've verified this on the existing one in my daughter's Edge. The tool you mentioned would work well but I'm going to try it with my tiny 1/4" ratchet and screwdriver bit combo first.
