What's this cargo rack for?

My best friend's family were 3 generations of nurserymen (and women). In addition to the greenhouses they also had a retail floral shop.

I don't think those racks wouldn't work very well for floral arrangements. There's too many bars to maneuver around for potted plants, etc. Back then it was just a home made pine box with compartments. Home made sand bags were used to keep it from sliding around in the delivery van.

Those aluminum racks appear to have evidence of sliding, like it was made for containers of some kind. My first though was stage/theater equipment. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe for Medical oxygen bottle home delivery? Oxygen bottles have been mostly replaced with oxygen generators which would explain the demise of the business and the sale of the vehicle. Any remnants of hazmat notification signage on the vehicle?

I C thumb wheel (blk nut, turn to tighten?) and pins on some corners to pivot or hang from.
None of the internal tines move (notice they R all double pinned w/nut/bolt) & no bars seem to swing. I
really think it was loaded out side the vehicle, placed in after full. What duz the rug/look like?

Couldn't you just ask the previous owner what it's for? Did you know that was in it before you bought the car?
Auction car so no. Yes I saw it before I bought it.

Used to transport medical specimens?
On the right track. Found some cards in the glovebox from Adventist Healthcare PET and Peninsula Imaging PET.

Took it all out and and all the pieces must total over 60 pounds. See a sticker that says Tailgater. Didn't find much on a search except, https://www.industrynet.com/listing/374516/tailgater-inc

we know who made it & for 'medical sales' I guess. Not
heavy batteries I bet. Does 'the medical field' employ more than any other?
(there's so many in 'allied medicine' I think it might be). Lub a puzzle ~
