Jeep JL CHMSL Relocate: OE Kludge or Clever?

The bike rack on my Wife's JL Sport obstructs the third brake light which is mounted on a pedestal attached to the spare mount. I looked at simply raising the pedestal, seemed an easy project, but depending on the bike it may still be obscured and that would also put the light further into the rear window. I was not a fan of the OE relo kit as it is too cutesy w/ the little Jeep grille and I thought it was kludgey...and it is but also really clever.

The relo takes the light housing and places it on a powder coated aluminum frame that bolts to the outer ends of two special lug nuts that retain the spare. The feed for the light is then routed through the spokes, and I fully taped and later added wire loom to better protect the wires. It works, adds complexity to using the spare but Jeep does provide a neal little ratchet with the torx bits.

Stepping back, this seems like something British Leyland would have done back in the day :D Maybe that's why I like it.

So, kludge or clever?

So dumb. But some people love that stuff.

Despite Jeep saying the factory mount can accommodate up to 35", mine slid up enough for a 38" Pat. To be fair, if you were really close on a low car the lugs may have obscured it.

I don't really care for any of the aftermarket CHMSL stuff. My wife likes the full rings that approximate wheel diameter and light up all around. But not for me. Such a huge aftermarket for such a simple thing.

it's all official and legal, and you added good supporting Mods to it.
I like it.
if it was my Jeep however, I'd probably do the Stupid wheel 'o LED's you were talking about, but that's me. ( I whole heartedly agree it's stupid, but i still like it., and why not have a little fun with it)
as long as y'all aren't driving around with a dash full of rubber duckies, it's all good.(y)
