Whats the deal with transmission additives, we all know about chlorinated parrafins in the engine additives etc but nothing about things like slick 50 transmission additives for example.
What are the bases for the additives? are they harmful like chlorinated parrafin?

Thanks in advance

After I added the Tufoil (WWW.tufoil.com) “oil additive” in my transmission on my (European model) Ford Mondeo the gear shift from 1 to 2 gear has become “perfect”, previously this was a problem on this car.
I must also say that I also use this Tufoil “oil additive” in the engine oil on this mention Ford and also on my other car, a BMW 520I (only in the motor oil) with very good results. This Tufoil reduce some serious amount of friction in transition and engine.
I will urge every one to try this Tufoil oil additive their self, this is a very good product after my experiences in both my cars.
Yes, this Tufoil contain PTFE (“Teflon”) but the particle size is so small that this will not cause any problem.
Is there any other on this forum that has good experiences with this Tufoil or is it only me

The only ATF add. I would ever consider putting into any of my personal or biz vehicles would be a Lubegard product. Even then it would be with genuine need and careful individual Lubegard product selection of frictional characteristics. Their red bottle protectant is, in my experience, harmless at best, but seems to really hold off fluid oxidation & wear material production. Its fairly idiot proof, compatible with just about any trans except cvt.

ATF is an area where using the best correct syn. fluid is a good idea, or sticking with OEM in the case of "proprietary" characteristics and doing timely changes.

not well versed in ATF but I do know some additives are a re pak of "normal" additive systems from the major suppliers, some are esters for seal swell and anti squak
FM's others are AO's or combo of all. I always recomend NOT useing them just change out on a "normal" say 30K OCI
with the right oil forget the snake oil IMHO.

As far as ATF, I know of no chlorinated additives in any ATF formulations or in any aftermarket additives such as Lubeguard OR SmartBlend.

Most of the aftermarket ATF additives are compounds of natural and synthesized esters, seals swellers, Friction Modifiers (special compounds for HFM additives), anti-oxidants, and dyes.

Thanks MolaKule, do you see any harm in adding something like lubegard or some off the shelf transmission fix? Other than a few dollars less in my pocket
