1) My first observation about oil hobbyists is that you will never get concensus on oil threads.
2) That oil will be fine for your 3000 mile drain interval no matter where it is blended depending on your definition of "severe". Someone asked what you meant by severe but I did not see your response.
3) I read the post about Supertech sources and while OTM did some very good detetctive work there, I don't see that it is conclusive. The only thing conclusive about it was that Walmart buys their Supertech oil form AT LEAST three different sources. One of the reasons for multiple sources is for transportation costs. Oil is heavy and much more expensive to ship that corn flakes or toilet paper. So they buy it from reliable blenders who are in close proximity to Walmart distribution centers.
4) One poster stated...... "I spoke to the tech folks at Warren, They claim they get their base oil from Motiva.Grp II and IIplus(5w30). Their additives come from Lubrizol. They blend it to the reccomended concentration from Lubrizol for SL/GF3."
This tells me that this oil is like any other off the shelf SL/GF3 oil. It meets MINIMUM requirments. That is really all you need to know.
Also relative to oil blenders. There are dozens of oil blenders out there who buy bulk oil and additives on the COMMODITY market. Meaning they buy their group II base oil from who ever has the best "delivered" price and/or service on any given day. Sure contracts exist where one blender may have a better deal with Chevron, another with Mobil, but the bottom line is basic economics prevail and any manufacturer buys the cheapest product he can find to make the product to minimum specifications. All belnders have QC people who test and document every batch, every day to minimum SL/GF-3 specs. Walmart has QC people who review the blender's documentation and as long as their docs say it meets SL/GF-3, that is all that matters. The differences between one vendor to the other are there but they are so miniscule that none of us will ever know the difference.
So, long story short. Cheap oil is cheap oil and any SL/GF-3 oil is fine for most any 3000 drain interval.
