Yeah I broke that rule with my Toyota Highlander and the new 8-speed transmission and boy was I sorry I bought something that hadn't been around a while yet.

You're kidding, right? I guess you have never been there.

Despite Ford's Ecoboosts apparently not having severe LSPI problems (?), I noticed this little nugget of info on a spec page for Motorcraft 5W30 (either synthetic or blend)...
" This oil also meets WSS-M2C946-B1 and SN PLUS, therefore it can reduce oil derived low speed pre-ignition."
I don't know this for sure, but I THINK the new Ford -B1 specs include some kind of LSPI test. GF6 will also include an LSPI test in a Ford engine.
Funny how all these new standards are being introduced over a bunch of bunk...but, obviously you know best. We need to tell all the researchers running LSPI tests in labs to cease their work immediately...

The 18 up ecoboost truck all went to dual injection. 2.7 3.5 ect. The main reason is valve coking. gdi cant keep the intake faves clean. I would suspect that the fouling on the intake valves contributes to the lspi.
BMW was one of the first to require 25k intake valve cleaning service for it DI motors. With the reintroduction of Dual injection this is not required anymore.

This isn't the solel reason. I think they chose the same route Toyota and other OE's have where you get better efficiency and emissions control based on using each system at different times as was discussed in my Toyota D4-S thread.

Does it have a benefit of back washing the valves as well, absolutely but I don't think they chose it for this reason alone. Don't forget the direct injection engines that aren't dual setup and aren't experiencing the problems.
