What's my car worth?!?

Very few in the real world value the maintenance records beyond oil changes, brakes, etc.. Don't assume that most others hold your opinion about excessive cleaning, but don't over do it either. Most people are sold on first impressions and they want a car that looks as new as possible. It's human nature. I've sold a half dozen vehicles and the first thing I always hear is "it looks so nice", not "you did well with the oil changes".

I agree with everyone else's comments about relative value in your marketplace too. Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the input. The carpet/mats are not really stained at all. This pic was taken after I vacuumed and spot treated the few barely noticeable spots there were. This comment was eye-opening though, nobody knows exactly what I did, and nobody should assume the picture paints a false image. When carefully analyzing the pic with an unbiased eye, it does appear dirty. Among other things mentioned in this thread, new pictures may be beneficial. Thanks!

Fair, but book values say otherwise. I'll keep it for anything less than $6K, maybe even $6,500. Not trying to sound blunt or rude, I really appreciate the criticism and input. That was the point of this thread.

Which book?

It is worth what it is worth. Drop the price until you start getting interest.

I think this is a very valid question, because according to KBB, you're about $1k over the highest market value. This is with excellent condition marked and I used an Edmond zip code. Regardless, at the end of the day, if you're not getting bites on your car at it's current price then it's priced outside of the market value regardless of which website you used. Price it lower until you start getting movement, or if the car is worth more to you than it is in a sale, find a way to keep it. Good luck!

You are attached to the car, emotionally and maybe financially.

Um, no? KBB/NADA both put values well into the $6s. Bottom end is in the low-mid $5s. If I marked it for even $5,500, it would be sold before the ink on the sign dried. I know because I've already turned down someone willing to buy sight-unseen at $5900.

Edit: See?^^^

Definitely a notch vehicle. Most buyers see V8 and immediatly think gas guzzler. Wrong time to sell is when gas is so high.

Clean under the hood. I understand your thinking but buyer don't think like that. They want clean.

People no longer bargain when buying a car. They pay the asking price. So if your asking price is too much they walk.

Nobody except car people know what an SS is. It may be worth your asking price but your going to have to wait for that one person to pass by if he ever does. Maybe move it to another street?

Are the exact same people driving past it every day?

I know I'm a bit above, but I was kinda banking on someone willing to pay more for quality, rarity (there's only 1 other for sale within 100 miles), and records. I do completely agree with everything you've said though. And like others have already said, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. That's why I'm feeling out the BITOG crowd, usually the advice is sound, if not spot on.

Yep. Completely valid argument. Interesting about the bargaining bit, didn't think things have changed quite that much. I do move it around, parking it in the same spot for 2-3 days straight.

Oh and another thing. Many workers didn't get a tax return this year. Me included. I was not prepared to pay this year and it was an unwelcome surprise! Same with potential buyers in your area too?

2 strikes against you. It's a niche car, fast, powerful, but I'm sure gas mileage sucks in a rising gas price period. So you have way less buyers than a typical Camry etc. Secondly, I think your a bit high. Almost 11 years old, 135k miles and a Chevy. More like 6k.

Never would have thought of that. Very interesting.

OP,

Sorry, but most of the guys are right. $6k is very optimist. $4k-$5k is closer to reality.
Unless you get a bite from an enthusiast from the SS forums.
Also don't forget to "sell" it as a Sleeper car.

Not the same car or even brand, but I had the same experience with my beloved (my first new car) Toyota Yaris sedan Base AT Blue Pacific.
Carmax give me $4k (already better than dealers estimates at $1k-$2k) with 64K miles, original owner, one accident (repaired many years ago).
They promptly put it on their lot for $9,995 and sold it (I'm going to guess with no haggling) in 3 months. I'm going to guess they didn't even clean it up since I give it to them spotless

Agreed. Gas isn't terrible out here, about $2.75 for 91 E-10, or about $3.15 for 91 E-0, but that is still pricey for most (and is the exact reason I'm finally parting with it). I know I'm a bit high, that's why I made this thread... to see just how high.

To me, overly detailed records = something to hide or just a plain money grab

Maybe you should consider who is most likely to buy the car. Take your cues from any interested buyers who already have inquired. Adjust your expectations and asking price accordingly.

I understand that the point was to counter my argument, but how can complete transparency via records = something to hide? If I wanted to hide something, I wouldn't provide records to potentially incriminate my maintenance or lack thereof.

It took 6 years to build this information. I didn't fabricate it overnight.
Edit: As for being a money grab... idk. I feel I kept records to prove I did something right. It took an equally absurd amount of time to collect, sort, and list this info. I understand many/most won't care, but I feel that time is worth *something*, no?

$4.19 for regular here.

Used car market is flooded with 3 year old lease turn in . Most with 30k miles , good gas mpg and warranty . It's a buyer market not sellers .

It's not normal to maintain meticulous records, much less present them in a potential sale. In fact, I'd call it abnormal. Almost to the point of drawing all my attention in one direction to keep me from noticing something you didn't want me to notice...like the fact your records START at the 75K mile mark.

Where are the rest of the maintenance records?? What happened pre-75K that you don't want me to know about?!?

—————————

That'd be my mindset if I were looking to buy the car.

Well, I can't type it, because when I do, the post gets deleted, so perhaps a screenshot of your post will get my point across (because then I'm not 'saying' anything)...
