What’s going on with Quaker State Ultimate Protection?

I’m currently on my second OCI of this oil in 0w20 in the Carnival. It’s a Walmart exclusive product, but according to Quaker State’s website, it outperforms the QSFS. When I bought a couple OCIs worth last summer, the 5qt jugs were very new stock, but the single quarts were all from May 2023. Recently I checked out another local WM’s oil selection, and all their quart bottles of this stuff were still also from May 2023. The 5qt jugs were still newer but have gone from a shiny label to a matte one. I checked the Quaker State website today, and the PDS for all grades of this oil are unavailable when you click on the link.

I bought the oil because it seemed like the best value at the time in their lineup. Only $1 more than the QSFS, likely GTL based, 20,000 mile rated (doesn’t apply here). But it seems no one knows about it or talks about it. Maybe the links are down because they’re updating the PDSs to the API SQ version or something. Such a weird product, but still a great value if your WM carries it.

I'm not a 'gambling man' nor do I fall for marketing hype...but...which such little difference in price between it and QSFS....I'll risk that SOPUS is getting over on me....just in case circumstances force me to go over my 7K OCI max.

It is oddly priced. It’s only a buck more, and from the SDS, also likely has GTL. The QSFS is not GTL. But it’s only sold at WM. Some stores don’t even stock the quart bottles of the grade I want, only the jugs.

Granted I’ve heard it mentioned it’s not long for this world…..QS is going to stick with the lower end oils…..

Using it in my Mazda's. Wifes CX-5 is going to get it this weekend. I had previously done an OCI in her car with the Ultimate Protection, but put Pennzoil in it when they had the Promo (basically got a 5qt jug free.)

LIkely stick with it as its a good oil at a good price. Someone earlier in the thread said it may be getting dropped. I hope not.

EDIT: Walmart dropped price of their regular synthetic Quaker Stae to $20...

The QS UP FS data sheet for 5w30 still has a working link to download. That's the one I looked at 2 weeks ago and its specs are excellent. I also previously downloaded 0w20 & 5w20 data sheets 2 weeks ago and they are excellent too.

Tonight I notice that the links to 0w20 & 5w30 data sheets are now broken links. For some reason, there are now two 5w30 links - one broken & one working.

I think it's incompetant website management by QS or SOPUS website maintenance IT staff. I'm an IT manager myself. I recognize it as incompetance by whoever maintains the QS website. If it was intentional, they'd fix or remove the broken links, not leave them dead.

I don't assume the dead links mean the oil is being discontinued.

The incompetance of their website maintenance people has nothing to do with the people who make the oil or the products they make, IMO. Though it's not exactly a ringing endorsement of the SOPUS middle or upper management business office. They should be embarrased.

I attached page 2 of each data sheet (0w20 & 5w30) that I downloaded 2 weeks ago. I did not download the 5w20 data sheet 2 weeks ago and now its link is dead.

I only attached page 2 of each data sheet that I have. Do you also want page 1 of each? P1 is mostly just a list of the certifications and standards that it meets or exceeds. P2 is numerical test data claims, which I attached in prior post.

I like Quaker State High Mileage Full Synthetic 5W-30 - The 5 quart jug is on sale now at Walmart for $20. It has a strong additive package with generous amounts of anti-wear (phosphorous + zinc) and detergent (calcium) additives.

I've used the Quaker State Ultimate Protection 5W-30 once for a 5k mile OCI in a 2007 Honda Odyssey. No issues to report.

In my opinion, there really isn't any meaningful difference between brands of group III Synthetic oils that meet the spec.
If you just buy the lowest price one, you'll have the same results as if you buy the highest priced one.

I wish everyone could realize this. Unless someone wants to really extend intervals, performance differences are negligible.

There are viscosity differences, which is an area where QS excels or exceeds the others, which is why I like QS, especially for HM cars.

Is QSUPFS a group 3, GTL, or a mixture? I've heard it's either GTL or a mixture of GTL & G3. I've never heard it called G3.

In post 7 I had a typo. I meant to say:

Tonight I notice that the links to QSUPFS 0w20 & 5w20 data sheets are now broken links. Also, for some reason, there are now two 5w30 links - one broken & one working. The link for 10w30 is missing. That's bad website management, but not a reflection on the oil.

Two weeks ago I downloaded the data sheets for QSUPFS 0w20, 5w20, & 5w30. I uploaded (page 2) of data sheets 0w20 & 5w30 to post 7 above.

I can't find the 5w20 data sheet in my phone. I guess I lost it. I would have uploaded it if I still had it.

QSUPFS viscosity index is impressive and its KV100 (op temp) viscosity is very impressive. I think it's the highest 100KV viscosity you can find in a full syn oil that's not a Euro oil.

Also, if you look on QS website comparison of QS oils, QS rates QSUPFS as their best oil. Even better than QS Euro full syn oil.

Also, QSUPFS is either fully GTL, or a mixture of GTL & G3. Either is excellent.

I'd be impressed and wanting to use it even if it was $30 a 5 qt jug, but at $20 it's a bargain while still being very high performance. What's not to like?

Quaker State has only 3 good oils', 2 of them are no longer available, the 3rd oil is still available, but it would hurt my gas mileage in my car and only be good in my Lawnmower.

I can think of 4 very good QS oils right off the top of my head. There might be more. Why does it matter how many good oils a company has? It only matters to me that one or more of their oils are good for my Buick. The good prices are a nice bonus too.

QS is the recommended factory fill for Hyundai and possibly other car brands. I just learned that while working on my neighbor's Hyundai.

NOACK, there is only 1 left with Quaker State that has a great NOACK Number!
