I have 2gals. of Chevron Supreme 5w-30 SL rated oil. I wanted to know if it OK to use in 2001 GMC Yukon 5.7L. engine.

I am about to roll up on the Auto RX rinse phase. It is the only oil I have on hand that is not synthetic oil.

I don't know, but if you are trying to age the oil, check for a date code and call Chevron to get the interpretation. Then you will know exactly how old it is. Otherwise, if you are trying to bracket the age, you also need to know when SL came out for the oldest it could be. Bottom line though is that you should be fine to run this oil, but I would shake it well in case there was some settling during storage.

What is funny to me is that many Hyundai cars made in 2006 still have "Use 5w20 SL/ILSAC GF-3" written on them.

Because SL grade oil (any type) is EXCELLENT oil!

Most of the cars that require SM have some Low emissions stuff that need to have to SM adds.
