What would you rather have on the bottom of your oil pan?

Factory plug that gets a new plug and gasket once the old gasket is flattened out.

I'm too chicken to run a Fumoto valve, but maybe one day I will. That and I don't find using a ratchet to be that much work to take the plug out.

I’ve been using these GoldPlug magnetic drain plugs with aluminum and copper crush washers on a few of our cars. I never torque drain plugs too hard. 15-25ft-lbs is plenty. They have been great so far, always cleaning off some tiny particles during each drain. Really strong magnets. I’ll just stick with it. The Fumoto valve just looks so **** convenient lol! But then again oil changes are easy enough to do. Stop trying to be a lazy ass Nic! 😂

Plug with gasket hands down. Seen a lot of leaky valves my past profession. Not to mention if for any reason you have to take it in for service (traveling, illness, or just life.) I definitely could see a lube tech jacking up one of those fancy valves with a quickness.

I think on the Outback I could use a valve, as I always seem to get oil splashed more when draining it and its quite well protected. The Focus plug is nearly the lowest thing and it seems to drain in a more controlled fashion so I'm fine with it as is. I can't say I've had an aluminum washer leak yet so I just keep using them again and again.

The factory style plug and warsher/gasket. Torqued correctly, more or less.
Most oil change services are done topside with MityVac. Easy peasey.

Plug hands down. Too much crap can fly up from the road to hit any aftermarket valve and damaging it IMO. It's a critical component, crap happens.
The valves on both my Jeep and my Toyota are well protected. On the Jeep it's up inside, well protected by the skid plate. And on the Toyota, the cover you have to remove protects everything. Pan, valve, and oil filter.

Many of the newer cars are like this.

Depends on the application. I have a fumoto on my parents' vehicles because it makes servicing them easier, and the valve is well protected. On my BMW a Fumoto won't really fit due to the angle of the pan. It would work with an extension but that seems a bit too open to damage in my opinion.

I have a magnetic plug on a 1967 Gravely Commercial 10A walk behind brush hog that I just rebuilt the engine in, which is an all cast-iron Kohler 10hp with no oil filter.
