The cars don’t go more than 7,000 km a year (Toronto). Three of the four have “extreme conditions” when you factor in weather and driving habits.

I mean, rarely does it go past -15 in the GTA without wind chill so a 5w30 would suffice technically. Thinking of jumping to all Pennzoil oils next change, nothing to do with objective thinking, just more so because I want to.

Cars have 0WXX or 5WXX synthetic year round and the tractor and atv have 15W40 year round now. I just don't need to start them in -20C or less, typically -10C or warmer and they start a bit sluggishly but always start.

Amsoil SS 5w30 year around for the 24 Powerboost, 10k miles
Valvoline RP 5w30 is going into the 08 FJ very soon. Had been using Mobil 1, mileage is 141k

I change the oil in my truck barely once a year, so it gets 5w-30 as it gets 0f most years and every once in a while we see -10f. Coldest I've seen is -16f.
The wife's car runs up enough miles to get a summer and winter change. Its got 5w-30 in it now and I'll put 10w-30 in whenever it warms up as the that engine shears the sht out of the oil.

Same oil, year round. 5W30, 0W20 and 0W16, depending on the vehicle.

only time I did something like 10W30 in the summer was when I found some on the cheap. The one time I tried starting it at like 30F I did not like how it cranked (in hindsight, the battery was getting EOL). To me, no value in changing weight with the weather, but my engines are not pushed hard (no need for high viscosity), and what with modern engines and their heat exchangers, oil temps tend to stay consistent (especially with my gentle driving).

I do like the thinner winter rating, makes cold oil draining easier.

I tried 15w-40 in winter but the cold start pressures on my Pontiac V8 were off the charts. I have heard of Pontiacs shearing the oil pump driveshaft pin off so I switched to M1 0w-40. Much lower cold start pressures. More leaks, too, but that's how I know it's not empty 🤣

ST 5w30 full synthetic in my 2005 GC with the 3.8L for all the winter months. has been down to like -20*c and thats really been puttting it through the rounds. 10w30 going in for the summer
