What Weight Oil Do You Run In Your Generators ?

It's a matter of ambient temps. . My Generac stationary gets 0-30w as it sees -20F or even lower every winter in my northern place. Record high temp. there is only 93F. It's gotta start when I'm not there to keep the heat on.
Friend was getting low oil shut down after starting up with his in the same area with 5-30w, 0-30w in it and no issues.
Mine has a thermo controlled heat pad on sump and a battery warmer also. My own upgrade, Generac kit is a rip off.
My portable BS motor in my primary house is garaged stored and gets 5-30w
Previous portable at my up north place would not pull start at 0F with 5-30w synth. in it, too thick to spin over motor fast enough, in fact I was even lifting a 5600/8000w unit off the ground via the recoil. 0-30w in it and hard pulled but it started.
All oils used are full synth.

I just changed out the oil in all 3 of my generators. (Honda EM-600, and 2 Westinghouse 9,500 watt dual fuel models). I went with Mobil 1, 15W-50 in all 3. It can get very hot here in the dead of Summer. And that's when we are most likely to have the most outages. The 15W-50 seems about the perfect choice. Even in the coldest weather here in the Winter, my garage seldom gets below 65 F. (Where I store both of them).

I have about 1-1/2 quarts remaining from the 5 quart jug. It will be just enough to change out the oil in my pressure washer the next time I crank it up. (Kohler 6-1/2 H.P. Simpson). What weight oil do you guys run in your gen sets?

currently I have 10W30 Super Tech in mine, but next time I change it I think it will be whatever HDEO 15W40 I have on hand. Mine generator tends to run for longer periods of time at racing events, like all day or for several days. It has an electric start so need to worry about pulling it over. Besides it starts on the first pull if I do pull it.

Just my $0.02

Presently I have 5w-40 Rotella RT6 in both of my generators here in southeastern PA. Neither one has seen an extended run of more than 8 hours. Were I to be facing a longer multi day outage I wouldn't hesitate to fill them with a 15w-40.
