What was your shortest employment?

Hi Scott, did Karl Werner seem like a normal person to you, or did something seem a bit off?

A friend of mine had a sister that briefly dated Craig Peyer. Craig was the California Highway Patrol officer who was convicted for murdering Kara Knott. My friends sister said she could something was really wrong with him.
About the only thing I remember about him after all these years was his booming voice and his ability to get easily agitated. I also remember being a bit scared of him.

8 years, not counting part time jobs in high school. Only had 4 jobs in my life and I'm 69 and retired now.

One summer as a pool boy in Sherman Oaks in the early '90s. Almost everyone had a pool there. The maintenance part of the job was okay but the older ladies, bored housewives, were pests. I had to pull a few of them out of the water because they couldn't swim, were drunk in the AM, were on pills/high, enjoyed being rescued a bit too much and so on. It was aggravating and gross.

Dont forget I showed up on my skateboard. Some of those women were my schoolmates' moms, aunts, and grandmas. Ugh. I remember pulling hair extensions out of a clogged drain. They were stuck really good.

I worked at a meat packing house for a couple of days. I had a hard time keeping a knife sharp and the work was hard, cold and boring. I would get hit on my hard hat by people waking by me. They would take off their hard hat and hit me over the head and saying that's how two turtles hook up and they would laugh. In today's world it would be harassment. Needless to say I was only about 18 years old and decided it wasn't for me. I made a terrible factory worker and have a difficult time mentally accepting I am getting paid for doing the same task over and over again. Some people are ok with it however it just is not my game.

I worked for a used farm equipment dealer for 2 months after graduating from college while waiting for my real job to start. I got hired on because my father worked there as a mechanic part time after retiring. I helped with repairing and painting used equipment the owner would buy at auction. I also drove truck to go pick up equipment the guy bought. The owner was a real bully and I had to argue with the guy to get paid for the work I did. He reminded me of that Sling Blade character. Turns out the guy had his business partner murdered over a dispute of ownership of an airplane. He fled to some South American country after a warrant was issued for his arrest and it took 10 years for the authorities to track him down. Didn't surprise me at all when I found out about it.

Just last week this came up in a similar thread on a machining forum I'm on. So I'll copy and paste my post from there.

New kid started and the foreman is doing the shop walkthrough with him to meet everyone. He gets to one of the high-speed guys and my foreman says "watch out for this one, he'll kiss ya" and, without missing a beat, Joe (the high-speed guy) reached out and gives this kid a huge bear hug for like five seconds straight. The kid hung around for like an hour and walked right out the door.

EDIT: hi-speed is a form of milling, for those who don't know.

Some of you are the epitome of weak. 30-40 minutes? 1 day? 2 days at UPS?

There is no way any of you that couldn't hack a menial, hourly job at a young age can speak against anyone today....

I gave you an evasive response earlier. Let me paint you a picture. I had a strict dress code. I wore linen Polo shirts because t-shirts would have been considered gauche and I was rocking board shorts. Vans that came off on the job. The worst abuse was the cheek pinching and the call for "Will you fetch me the bronzer, dear?" followed by "Will you put it on me?" "What strong hands you have!" and "Fifi had an accident in the pool an hour ago." And sometimes a bunch of the ladies had pool parties. Where were the reinforcements - we had an emergency!
