I've got an IWB Ted Blocker rig for my Glock 19. I bought it in '95 or '96 & it's as good as the day I bought it. I also have some sort of nylon contraption that goes around my waist & closes with a velcro strap. It works very well. I use the nylon rig when I'm mountain biking alone on back-country trails. I started carrying the Glock while riding alone a few years ago, when I came up on two ferel dogs in the woods, a few miles from the nearest human. One dog was a Rotweiller mix & the other was a German Shepard mix. On that day, they decided for whatever reason they didn't want to eat me. I was glad.

What kind of holsters do you guys use?

I use Fobus for open carry when I'm out and about. Good retention, great price ($20). Otherwise, I have a guy at a local shop custom-make leather holsters for other uses.

I use a Bianchi Model 5 Black Widow for most of my semi-auto pistols. I use Galco Kodiak shoulder holsters for my 8-3/8" 454 Raging Bull and S&W 500, and for my 4" S&W 500 I use a Galco D.A.O.

I made the switch from leather to Kydex years ago and have never looked back. I use Blade Tech holsters for IDPA/IPSA and Fist ultra thin Kydex holster for carry. They are ~ one-third the thickness of leather, hold the gun at least as well, and actually release it when drawn.

Specifically I use the Fist J-hook IWB holster for carry. Under $40 I have them for all my carry guns since I usually carry IWB. I have had so many people by them after trying one of mine on.

I use a Galco Concelable for my Kimbers, along with a Uncle Mikes verticle should holster for the ULTRA CDP, since I make a lot of trips over to Ohio and they requre "carry in plain site" while in a car.I have a "few" other holsters obtained over the year's that have taken the place of my "sock" drawer. Going to have to get rid of some of them....

Got out of Law Enforcement but, when in it I carried SafariLand, and Gould and Goodrich. Got rid of the semi automatics due to malfuntions and reliablity reasons. Made my switch back to my trusted revolvers. Saving my pennies for a Kirkpatrick holster for my .357 Magnum.

I've been using Threat Solutions UCR's for years, but recently bought a DeSantis Scorpion (clone of the UCR) to use after my last UCR broke a clip.

I never use anything but kydex for serious carry.

My G19 and G36 get the Don Hume IWB Holster unless I have a jacket on. I use a Fobus for OWB.

I like both for their retention and secure feeling when carrying.

sdmahr,
How do you like your G36? I had one for a while, & my hands are so small-ish, I couldn't depress the slide release lever with one hand. I quickly sold that gun. I LOVE my G19.

I have a DeSantis ankle holster for my model 23 Glock and a Blackhawk for my model 35 when I'm not carrying the 23 on my ankle. kwg

WavinWayne:

I PM'd you. For the benefit of others I like my 36 but still prefer the 19 due to accuracy, reliabililty, comfort, and capacity. To me it comes close to the ultimate carry pistol.

Pulling this one back up. The wife and I have had run-ins with black bear the last few times we have been out biking. The last time with cubs. The places we ride are really hilly, making bike-escape unlikely.

Not wanting to hurt the bear, I wonder if significant sound would be sufficient. I'd guess that a glock 19 is smarter than a s&w 317 all the same...

They make large size pepper spray guns especially for bear. Not sure how much they cost as there aren't a lot of bear around here, but I have seen them advertised.

I think I'd go with the G19C, the compensator would add a tad bit more accuracy if a bear were to grab ahold of somebody
