My house has 1950's sliding windows. Aluminum frames on an aluminum track.they are hard to slide open and closed.

I need to lube them. I don't think grease is a good idea. Maybe some kind of wax?

I just lubed my windows with silicone spray, spray, clean with paper towel, spray some more. Spray the tracks and the balancer mechanism.

I use a product called Slider Slicker that's made for sliding door tracks. I have one set of exterior doors that have a sliding screen on them, and I just put it on once a year after cleaning the track. It keeps the screen door sliding smoothly and almost silently all summer.
