What to do with unused oil that is 10+ years old?

I recently received a case of various quarts of motor oil that are unused, yet probably over 10 years old. Does anyone have any suggestions how to use it? Most are 10w40, which is not suggested for use in my Nissan and Toyota. I have considered using it in my lawn mower. Also, can it be mixed w/ gas for a two stroke? Or, should I just drop it off at the store for recycling? Thanks for the feedback.

I'd check to see how much settling went on and if there are any olfactory signs of biodegradation. If it looks and smells OK - it should be OK in an old beater.

It'll work fine in a crusty lawn mower.

Can't be mixed and used in a two-stroke.

It can be mixed with diesel fuel a little at a time and used/burned that way.

If it is still sealed, it is probably good enough to use in some limited applications - as top-off oil if your cars use any, or for shorter change intervals, as a flush, or something like that.

Or you could start a collection of 'antique' oil - I've got 2 litres of SJ-rated Equillon Havoline that I was going to use, but then thought, 'this was a one-time oil they made (the Equillon merger), it could be a nice 'conversatuion piece' in years to come'.......

Do you mean that a 10w40 should be ok in a 1985 era riding craftsman mower?

If so, then I could pour it in the mower at my parents' and get rid of the oil (10w40 from Worldwide AP circa 1988 or so). It's been up on a shelf unopened the rest of a case ever since they sold the '78 jeep cj they had for plowing the drive. What was left of it, that is(rust).

You now have a lifetime stock of lube for your oil squirter can. Great for bike chains, lawnmower, garage door roller wheels, rubber gasket on oil filters, hinges, . Anywhere you would use 3in1 or simlar.

"Does anyone have any suggestions how to use it?"

Before you go to work in the morning, put it in your front yard out near the road with a sign that says, "FREE".

It will be gone when you get home.
