It was designed for a “ fight in a phone booth “……when phone booths were common. It's definitely a gun intended to be used at 21 feet or less.

Not between father and son, in the OP state.A handgun MUST be transferred at a FFL.
A Model 36 is a desired revolver.
OP does not list their location, nor do you.A handgun MUST be transferred at a FFL.
A Model 36 is a desired revolver.
Well the Steelers blanket on the bed in the background is a hint. Guess you were never a cop.OP does not list their location, nor do you.
Even in the DPRM an inherited gun does not need to be transferred at an FFL.
I can’t say if it was carried or carried. Dad bought ift off great family friend probably 20 years ago plusNice revolver. I be,I eve the original 36 was called a Chief’s Special.
While I’m not a huge fan of the snub nose, they had their place.
You’ll need to show some more of it. It looks like the blue is well worn - was it carried or holstered? A good condition Smith of that era is beautiful. The bluing can be so clear and mirrorlike it’s amazing. Of course on a snub there isn’t the surface area to reflect, but they’re nice regardless, and obviously yours has sentimental alike too.
I’m glad you’re keeping it. It beats anything made modern by a huge margin.
Absolutely correct.Guess you were never a cop.
You chose wisely. Whatever works.Absolutely correct.
