Beretta 92FS or Sig P226? / Rant

Use a DAO Smith (5946). Works great, digests any & all fodder (HST in it at present, 147gr variety). Accurate enough - how far out are you REALLY gonna engage anybody w/ a semiautomatic handgun? Just sayin'...

For a house gun, the large frame 92 is probably just fine. The Sig makes more sense when venturing outside. Either will do in a pinch - very reliable shooters & reliability is the most important aspect if you can group w/ the thing. That's why I like J-frame Smiths - perfect reliability. It simply MUST go bang when you need it to go bang. But I digress...

Go in peace.

John.

Well both those guns passed the rigors of the U.S. Military tests, with Beretta winning out mostly due to cost. Between a Beretta USA 92FS and a Sig 226 I say the Sig is a better gun. However, the Italian Berettas are IMHO a better made gun in the fit and finish dept versus those being churned out in Marlyand. No matter what you pick, it will serve you well. The Beretta fits my hand better, but the decock/safety on the slide is not as ergonomic as the SIG decocker to me.

I have probably fired 20,000 rounds through issued M9s over the last 22 years. I have never been a fan though, mostly due to the size of the pistol. I have small hands and the M9 (92) just feels far to big for me. Never had any issues with reliability.

If it has to be a DA pistol then my choices would be Sig,FN, Glock, M&P, or XD.

My carry pistol is a 1911.
