What to do with old S&W 38 revolver?

Model number (rather than name) and pinned barrel dates it from between 1957 and 1980, but the cylinder latch style leads me to believe it’s late 60’s or newer. The Model 36 is often referred to as the Chief’s Special.

I have a book with the S&W serial number ranges but I'm having difficulty laying hands on it at the moment.

I also discovered that I should add it to my conceal and carry permit.

I didn’t go thru with the 380 purchase. Looking at a few S&W 40 cals at moment.

Good Korning folks. I inherited dad’s old 5 shot Smith and Wesson short barrel 38 revolver. I’m working on finding way to get rid of it since it’s not even registered. It’s not very accurate at all after 15 yards. Just bought a darn nice BERSA 380 ACP at Rural King also; I’m in heaven with that gun 😍😍

Thank You for any and all advice.
Doesn’t need to be “registered” in your state.

It was your Dad’s.

Keep it. You don’t need to shoot it, if you don’t like it, but keep it.

Unless you need the money, keep it. Of course it is not a good as something modern, for self defense, but it could be a very good snake gun.

Bonus story.......

years ago, I went into a crawlspace to start plumbing it. New construction. Saw what looked to me, like someone had went a toilet paper the crawlspace.....kind of like this:

of course, I was floored by what I was seeing. SNAKE SKINS all over the place!

Next day, I came prepared for battle. My helper had brought his 38 whatever, I think it was a Taurus. I killed many snakes. Wish I had pictures, this was before I had a smartphone.

You can do many unsafe things, safely.

Keep the snake gun.

There's only a few States that require "registration".
It's definitely a gun intended to be used at 21 feet or less.
