I like choice 4 as well.

Make sure its Pennzoil conventional Hi-miles. They DO have a High Mileage formulation of API SN Pennzoil conventional, itts in the gold bottle. its good oil.

But he cant buy AMSOIL at the store, and its so good its complete overkill for the 2.3.

Every oil listed is complete overkill for a 99' Grand Am 2.3L. The OP would be better off exploring high mileage oils, both synthetic and conventional, and reducing his OCI goals.

Isn't that engine noted for having head gasket problems?

Personally, I like Valvoline High Mileage 5w30 (syn blend IIRC). Valvoline full synthetic High Mileage and Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage would also be good choices, if one got them on sale....

If you must like Nickfesh said maybe a high mileage oil. I would use one by the same oil manufacturer of the oil you have been using todate.

If you scroll up, I did say I was going to use a High Mileage oil. For the past few years, I always took my car in for an oil change, so who knows what was put it. I last changed it myself this past Oct. with Castrol High Mileage and lately it would idle pretty rough. So as I said earlier Mobil 1 High Mileage is my choice unless someone can convince me to use PP.

Relax Treb, just getting your attention that your need to change anything.

If the vehicle is running well and the engine oil is doing its job, don't get on the hype like others.

If you are a good thing stick to it. I wish I had done that instead or experimenting and then going back to the OEM recommendations.
