What stereo amplifier/receiver?

So cool being able to choose 3 media whenever I want they all sound so good

I moved my sub woofing woofer this AM. Got lucky- sound is improved. Was near an outside wall now close to wall between closets in my office
I get that placement is important but you can end up chasing your tail forever. Believe it's quite different for home theater vs strictly audio.
Corner placement or near corner is recommended for HT. If I crank mine with a good Blu-ray in...like Heat, my wife gets after me because it's shaking things upstairs.
But it is awesome.

I have the STEELY DAN - Citizen Steely Dan '72 - '80 4 cd disc set . Like you said , they're very good recordings . The Donald Fagen solos too . Also have the 20+ year old cassette of STEELY DAN - " Can't Buy A Thrill " and that has great sound . Another is Paul McCartney - " RAM " which is on a 30+ year old cassette . May give them a listen this weekend on the YAMAHA KX-W592 dual cassette deck that's 25+ years old . Hopefully they'll still play .

Played fine .

Well CRAP!

My Marantz just died. Playing LP, low volume just quit. Nothing displayed, just clicks like a relay or something. Arrrgggggggggggg

I've contacted the seller. Frack.
You can have my Yamaha RX-V420 if you wish, bought it brand new back in 1998 or so, it's in very good shape and has manual and remote. I bought another Yamaha last Fri - R-N600A to replace the older one. Ping me if interested.

We abandoned HiFi stereo long ago. Sennheiser cans plugged into PC's, or phones with bluetooth earbuds or casting to a 2.1 TV sound system is all anyone in our household uses.

I was there but came back. Stereo old fashioned sounds better to me
I agree. There are some things that just don’t sound good. I have a Denon AVR in the family room driving Klipsch R-51Ms for front and surround, the R50C(?) for center, and an R121 sub.

However, I also have an urge for music in every room of the house. I’ve got JBL Studio in-ceiling speakers in the kitchen, living room and master. An OSD outdoor stereo 8” in the bathroom for the damp environment. Each speaker is in a different zone with signal from my Marantz M-CR611 or Amazon Echo, powered by an old school AudioControl Architect 500 12 channel amp (big old class AB sucker!). I’ve got one pair of channels bridged to a JBL SW88 in the kitchen wall. Some clearance Nuvo outdoor speakers on the porch, and some 8” Dayton Audio outdoor speakers on the back of the garage.

Probably way overkill for an old farmhouse, and definitely not in the “HiFi” range but for streaming and CDs it’s just fine. Once the kids are all out of the house there will be some upgrades, probably some Klipsch AK7s and a Marantz Model 10 or a big McIntosh. But the convenience is great!

I’m really shocked you had a Marantz failure so soon. Hope they make it right asap. If not, buy McIntosh or @OVERKILL ’s Bryson recommendation.

My favorite brand of Speakers are BIC America . I have a pair that is 30 years old and they still kick ass . I have multiple sets of these book shelf speakers. No way the wife will let me get towers lol !

McIntosh was recently purchased by Bose. Just an FYI.

Bryston, Wyred 4 Sound & several other North American companies are still producing great gear though

I remember in my youth my first set of speakers I bought was Bose 301s with a Technichs receiver and turntable I was probably 17. I put it in the den of my parents house I think my dad enjoyed it more than me.

You are best served finding a pre and using a separate, dedicated power amp.

Not the prettiest, but it has a built-in phono stage, this Bryston pre-amp is likely a solid choice:
https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650181250-bryston-1b-preamplifier/

This is newer, but doesn't have a phono stage, so you'd need to buy a separate one:
https://www.usaudiomart.com/details...s-1-power-supply-both-in-excellent-condition/

Even newer, but I'd want to confirm that this actually has the phono stage installed, because it may not:
https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650163446-bryston-bp16-preamp/

This is a LOT of amplifier, but it's a good deal:
https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650115090-bryston-3bst/

That amp, with the 1B pre is right at your budget and you'll have an absolutely top quality amp with a very good, albeit older, pre. Bryston services everything they've ever made, indefinitely, so there will always be parts.

Anything new, the phono stages are absolute crap unless you buy a standalone one, so if you want to use digital, it's best to have a separate pre for the turntable, like the Bryston one I've linked. I'm using a PS Audio pre for phono in my system, which is a solid pre, but I don't see any that are reasonably priced on Audiomart.

For digital, if you go with the Bryston power amp, you don't need anything fancy, and you can either just use a conventional receiver and place it between the pre/phono combo, or use it as an input if you want the pre to drive the show. I have my setup configured the other way, with a Denon AVR "running the show" with the PS Audio handling phono and the big Bryston powering the speakers.
Bryston is very good but expensive. They hold their value very well. You are giving good advice but his budget is $1200.

Yamaha AS801. Integrated amp in the mold of the classics but relatively reasonably priced. I use mine with older Bose 301 speakers because my wife doesn’t like tall box style speakers.

Are you saying they’re cheapening Mac? From what I read, Bose is intending on being mostly hands-off. Besides, I didn’t mean the new stuff. I’ve been eyeing some fully-refurbed original MC275, or maybe something like an MC2500.

There are lots of music that just doesn’t sound the same through class D amps. I want presence and power, and maybe a pretty space heater all in the same package! 🤣
