What type of oil should I use to keep my 383 stroker LT4 engine in best shape for street use?

Thank-you

I live in Texas so I never get cold weather(below frezing). It's in a Pontiac Trans am and plan on changing oil often so it stays clean and helps engine run clean.

Also one of my buddies was telling me to run premium gas and not unleaded?? Is this a good idea? If so can the two mix in with each other if i do plan on switching to using premium

Thanks.

Yes, running premium is a good idea. Yes, you can mix diffrent brands and grades of gas without issues.

I'd use rotella 10w30, if your looking for a synthetic, give mobil 0w40 a try after break in.

Unless you tuned the car for a different octane or are hiding pinging, using one higher than what the hand book recommends is just a waste of money.

I would run Castrol 0w30 (GC) or Mobil 1 0w40 in the 383 stroker.

LOL...yeah a LT4 should run nothing but premium. The compression is almost 11.0 and that dictates at least 91 octane. Running less will trigger the knock sensor and that will retard timing and kill power. As for oil, Chevy put 5W30 Mobil 1 in them when they were new. Unless you truly plan on beating the [censored] out of it, I'd stay with that as this engine doesn't require a thick oil under normal use. I've owned a couple of LT4s, from bone stock to a Vortech 600hp supercharged beast over the years and they are a great engine.

+1 and i would choose GC out of those two because its still technically lighter and does well in these engines. Mobil 1 0W-40 is a 40 so id say save that for track use, though GC should hold up very well even on a track (light tracking.) Shoot, maybe even hard tracking.

You could also run Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30 or 5w30 in a pinch. But yeah German Castrol is a darn good oil. Id also take a look at Rotella T6 which is a 5w40.

I use the rotella t-6 in everything now. Summer, winter. Doesn't matter. My 4.6 2000 mustang has 300 rwhp and my 5.3 has 320. Both motors have p&p'd heads and different cams. The 5.3 in the truck just turned 300k kms.

Everyone is assuming that nothing else was changed when it was made a stroker.
The builder could have bumped the compression even higher yet with different pistons or milled heads/thinner head gaskets (demanding 93 octane NO MATTER HOW it was tuned), built the bottom end with more clearance than stock (demanding a higher HTHS oil), and changed the oil pump to a higher volume or pressure unit.
