What oil for your snowblower and why?

Used to use 5w30. Worked OK.
Been using 0w30 synthetic the last four years.
Easier starting is my main concern.
0W oils seem to be a cut above the 5W, base stocks and additive wise; perhaps just a perception.

Oh I'm gonna use 0w30 since it gets well below Zero here and that is what the owner's manual says to use in those conditions! I will use Amsoil.

5w30 Trop-artic I believe. Our garage stays in the 30s and 40s. It starts right away if I remember to turn the fuel valve on.

I've always used 5w30 conventional in my Craftsman (5HP Tecumseh) and it starts easily on the first pull, every time. I will use syn 5W30 (PP) for the next oil change (still have a nice stash of it from when it was BOGO at AA).

I would think that for splash lubed engines used only in cold temps a syn 5W20 might be good too.

Rotella 5W-40 synthetic, I use it in many applications ATV, Tractor, Motorcyle, generator, lawn tractor...so I have it around and inventory is easy. It is HDEO and has many fans. As always, would 30 wt dino changed at regular/frequent intervals be just as good....probably.

Whatever 5w30 conventional I happen to have on hand for the cars. Worked fine for the last Tecumseh 5hp I had for over 20 years. Should work fine in my current 8hp Tec. The snowblower is in the garage which was still 12 degrees event though it was -20F outside the other morning. Never had a problem starting, even in temps down to -20 F, when taking the snowblower out from the warmer garage.

Yikes!! You guys have sure been getting some frosty weather up that-a-way!!

We use Mobil 1 5w30 in the 11 HP Tec on my Dad's Craftsman tracked blower. Boy those tracked blowers work well - no trying to climb up over the snow like the wheeled ones do sometimes.

I'm sure alot here do not want to hear what I have been using in my Craftsman 9HP snowblower.......15W50 red cap. I know some will say that is too thick but now this blower pulls & throws snow like it is no one's business. For me the rec. 5W30 just couldn't stand up to the abuse. BTW the temps today 0-5 degrees, no problems starting.

Right now I'm using Napa-brand 10w30 conventional, only because I had to use up my stash. Next oil change will probably be Supertech synthetic 5w30. I'm using it in my Explorer, my Accord, and my push mower, and it works great. I'm also trying to consolidate and just keep a few different kinds of oil for all the cars/machines.

I have an old MTD two-stage (Yellow Screamer) with a 5.5 Hp Tecumseh. Even when it gets down to -20F or lower it starts on the first crank.

I am currently using Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 with 1/2 ounce of ARX to keep the ring pack clean since it runs rich.

I use 1 oz. of Stabil and 1 once of Isopropyl per gallon of 91 octane non-ethanol fuel to keep the the carb clean.

Cigto Sea and Snow (ISO EGD, JASCO FC) @ 32:1

Starts 1st pull all winter, took 3 pulls to start after sitting all summer without draining the gas.

Anyone looking for overkill?

Redline 5w30/Royal Purple 5w30/Amsoil %w-30 ASL/Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. etc..

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in a Honda snow blower. Owners manual recommends 5w30.

May try a 0w30 next winter (if this one ever ends, that is)

1986 8hp Tec L-head powered Toro 824.

GC (0W30)

Why? Shear stable group IV/V synthetic, heavy 30wt (good when hot). 0W rating - good and splashy when cold, which it always is when using the machine. I use GC in my road vehicle, so having it onhand isn't an issue.
