could someone tell me what the best HM oil to use in a nissan 2.0L with 350,000 miles? it doesnt burn hardly any oil if any at all but does have a minor leak. thanks

it was my neighbors car who got moved into an assisted living center and has no need for it now. he told me that if i wanted a work car i could take it. he always had it serviced and doesnt remember what kind of oil was used.

what year/vehicle/ is it? what OCI did it have? if he just had it serviced somewhere. I bet he just had dino oil. At this point any miles you get out of this vehicle are freebies, I would just use any name brand dino 10w30 in your climate for Oakland, CA and monitor the oil level.

Try Mobil 1 5w-40 Truck & SUV, it's clean it out and conditon the seals. Otherwise a Hi-Mi oil or Auto-Rx treatment.

I'd personally use 10w-30 Havoline winter; 10w-40 Havoline summer.

Or if you're really wanting a HM oil, I'd use 10w-30 Havoline HM year-round.

The 10w-40 HM Havoline may be too thick.

Otherwise, I'd be tempted to throw in Rotella synthetic 5w-40 yr round.

Does the car run well or does it feel like it's on it's last legs or err... tires? Just because it's from the 80's with over a quarter million miles on it doesn't mean it deserves to be treated like a throw away.

If the car runs fine I'd pick up any brand name high mileage oil on sale and run that with a quality oil filter. Check the air filter and replace the PCV and Fuel filter as well. Run some water remover/de-icer and a fuel treatment through it and call it a day. A set of copper NGKs and store brand wires may even be worth it. Don't forget to check the quality of the coolant and tranny fluid. If anything, those last two are the most important.

My point is if the car has no major problems and the body isn't falling apart the thing may just go 600k for all we know. Certaintly worth the effort of the most basic levels of maintanence considering that you received it at no cost and have plans to use it for work. I imagine you'd want some level of reliability for that.

Good luck with it.

Tom
