What oil for my mower ?

I have a SNAPPER mower with a B&S engine . It burns oil like crazy . What oil should I use to coax another season or two out of it ?

You can try a heavier weight oil to slow the consumption. Don't know what you're using now but maybe an xw40 or xw50? If the plug isn't fouling you can just keep adding what you normally use.

Right now I just add whatever is handy . Usually 10w30 .
I was hopping to cut down on the oil consumption . All of that smoke is embarassing .

Try High Milegage Castrol - Worked for me on an oil burning Honda Harmony.

HM castrol dosen't do much for oil burning in mowers, I tried the same thing.

A good 10w30 with some thick snake oil would be perfect for your situation. Just use a ratio calculator for the amount of snake oil to use.

A straight weight will often burn less in a Briggs than a multigrade.

I use to have to add Mystik SAE 30 everytime I cut grass. I used Amsoil XL 5w30 and consumption went away for several months, then it required a couple of ounces. I then put in Amsoil 0w-40 and consumption ceased, while still keeping good (better than Mystik) fuel efficiency.

First, I would suggest trying to clean the motor out with some kerosene. Next time you need to add oil, just add kerosene to top it off, then let it idle for 15-20 minutes, drain the oil, and use a cheap synthetic (Super Tech) Xw-30.

If that doesn't bring the consumption down, then bump up the weight.

Me too that's all i use, but if she's a smoker i wouldnt

What I've done with smokers was run a straight 30 or 40wt dino with about 20% STP oil treatment (blue bottle.)
Got me an extra season out of a Tecumseh-powered push mower and the same treatment got my in-law's two extra seasons (and still going) out of an old 13hp B&S rider.

save your used oil from your truck or auto oil changes,wont hurt anything if you just want 1 more season out of your mower.

Since I never use mine below the freezing point, I'll probably use Rotella straight 30 once I'm done with the oil that came with it (bought it this year).

I use my 18.5hp rider even in the winter (hauling firewood in a cart from the shed to the house) so when the temps start dropping below freezing I'll be switching from B&S 30wt to Valvoline 10w30 Max Life syn blend.
Should give it a little better protection on those cold startups...
