What oil are you running in your lawnmower?

10w-30 conventional/hdeo in my toro, no need to go out of the way for synthetic unless your using a 0/5-XX, imo (or you have some left overs). I change it every fall, probably 25 hours on the push mower.

This brings up an interesting topic: If anybody out there uses Blackstone for a Used Oil Analysis on their lawnmower oil, they've taken this BITOG thing to a whole new level!

Whatever I have laying around probably super tech 5w 30 but who knows as I haven't changed it for 5 years. The oil still looks clean and is full so why bother. Just checked it as it sat outside all winter. It's a 25 year old 4.5 hp Briggs self propelled from K- mart, still cutting grass as of yesterday afternoon. Starts on the first or second pull too.

A synthetic or synthetic blend 10W-30, preferably one with at least 1000 ppm Zinc and viscosity of around 11.5 - 12.0 cSt at 100°C.

Current: QS Defy 10W-30 SL
Past: Shell Rotella T5 10W-30 or Pennzoil Platinum 10W-30
Future: Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-30

Challenge accepted. But I'll use the cheaper NAPA kit. I have an old Honda mower with about 50-75 hours on the oil. I'll send in a sample for fun. Currently has Valvoline 10w40 Motorcycle oil in it.

$1 per quart Castrol GTX SynBlend 5w30 in a Honda mower in Phoenix heat!

I saw SAE 30 and 10w-30 at AAP in 20 ounce bottles the other day. It costs the same as a quart of other oils. I looked at the back and it's API SJ. It might be a good choice if you want a high zinc oil.
