What Oil Are You Running In Your Honda 1.5T?

Not to start a war but 0w20 is recommended as the recommended viscosity in the OM. Interpret that as you will but it's very different than VWs "use VW xxx oil or you'll die."

I'll be trying 5w30. First pp and then Valvoline as I got them with rebate. After that I may try ST since I'll be going no more than 5k between changes. Any d1g2 oil is a good choice.

Why do you say that?

Because it's a perfectly valid option and you can't go wrong going this route.

Any chance you'll change your tune???

Tough call. Honda has made some fuel diluters over the years that can be tough on oil. I'd recommend taking the car on a nice long highway drive when possible to offset some of the severe service driving. I'd also follow the severe service schedule. As far as oil type/viscosity, I'd use a good PAO 0w20 like Mobil 1 EP or even Magnatec. You could use a 5w30 but that will like become a 20wt as well. I think a good synthetic 0w20 is probably what I'd stay with.

I would be curious how a good 10w30 with little to no VII's would do in this engine.

Here we go again - hipocrisy at its finest.

Let's play the game and guess which one is a fraud:

1. Manufacture millions of cars with know deffect that has a negative impact on the longevity, sell it for a good buck. Refuse regardless of the evidence that there'a a problem and not willing to spend any money on solvimg a problem.

2. Buy a 5qt jug of oil, bring it back to retailer and keep the receipt.

Now you tell everyone, which one is a fraud Mr. Double Standard?

Look, the fact that Honda likely does have an engineering issue here is zero justification for you to advocate fraud.
One does not justify the other. Period.

Honesty is the best policy.
It is both mine and your responsibility to opt for honesty.

I hope you don't sell annuities to little old ladies...

Fraud is wrong. Back on track...

I'd use an off the shelf 30 in this car, or something like M1 0w20 ep. even thought the 30 will shear, it will still be closer to in grade than a 20 will be. Maybe I'm wrong.

A ‘thin' 5w30 is what I am thinking. Pp or Valvoline will get the job done.

Firstly, make sure you spell addresse name correctly.

Secondly, i could absolutely care less about your opinion. You can call me out all day long, doesn't mattet.

And no, I don't sell. Never was and never will.

5w30 is pefectly fine in this car. I've done UOA on both 20 and 30w and 30 actually showed lower wear metals. I'm gonna be pulling another sample on 5w30 at around 6k on oil, but that'll be close to new year.

Try a bunch of upgrades to see what you like... but do upgrade... another trick is to have an easy way to extract, i modified my MityVac to fit right down the small oblonged dip-stick tube...when I go up a half qt. I'll extract a qt. then add back .5qt. fresh takes 10min. alot easier than ramps and messing with the skid foil right?

as to grade ignore the CAFE and the cowards definitely bump it, I like a ACEA A3/B4 LL-01 Euro spec. they don't cost much more for the quailty you'll receive.

with these two points you'll never be discussing oil with the dealer...If anyone asks you go by the book and leave it at that they have to prove otherwise and they won't even try.

1.5T is a great little motor just learn to maintain it.

10W30 is my "thin oil"

QSUD 10W30 is soooo smooth in my Accord!!

Waiting to hear back

I hope she's fixable!!

I have a hard time believing someone's girlfriend is interested enough in oil to ask others what they'd use. And said "girlfriend" knows of and is going to pay for UOAs? Sounds unlikely to me, but if it's true where did you find this woman?

Warranty says you have to show evidence of using an API certified 0w-20. Using the Schaeffer oil thickener of about a cup would mean you could not tell Honda about that, and Honda wouldn't know. Using an Xw-X0 of anything other than 0w-20 means they won't honor the engine warranty if they suspect you used the non-recommended oil. You could just take the chance there would never be an engine warranty claim over the next 6 years. Amsoil SS and Redline are not API, so they are out.

I appreciate the suggestion. If it was mine, or, if I even lived near her, it might be an option. But, as it is, with her living 7 hrs away, I'm not in a position to take responsibility for maintenance. The best I can do here is to suggest a good oil and suggest that she not go over 5K on OCI. And it's my opinion that a 30W oil will serve this engine well in consideration of the known fuel contamination problem with these engines.

I'll also suggest that she get a UOA - not on the FF, but on the next oil change.

PPPP 10W-30 has been my choice in my fuel dilution and shear-prone 2016 WRX since I drained the FF. I really like the very low NOACK (4.7% at last count). I'd recommend that for her if she didn't live in northern Indiana.
