I currently run a 3k OCI on my Trailblazer using Pennzoil conventional. Is that a good OCI to make sure the the add pack is activated, and that the oil has a good shot at cleaning my engine? Thanks.

I do 5k OCI on my wifey's camry, and mine based on OLM.
Cleaning an otherwise dirty engine is never my priority since day one, just a good conventional engine oil that would hold up to it's TBN throughout the duration between OCI and offers solid reliable performance for the money spent.

I bought my Trailblazer used, so if there is anything built up I wanna do what I can to clean things up a bit. I plan on keeping my TB for a long time. Pennzoil Conventional is supposed to have a good add pack for cleaning, and wear so I wanna run it long enough for it to do it's thing.
I'm skeptical of that oil life monitor, as when I got the vehicle the engine oil was black and I mean black and the OLM showed it had %40 life left. I'd rather let mileage and or driving habits dictate when I change it.

Dont judge an oil by its color..5k miles should be fine with ur TB. If you swap the 1st fill at 3k miles than go 5k miles between changes.
I make a lot of short trips on a curvy, hilly road every morning too. Lots of slowing and accelerating along the way. Still go with a 5K oci?

The OLM calculates the need for an oil change based on engine revolutions and engine temperature (or at least that's what the Burb's owners manual says), so it takes into account the greater stress put on the oil during higher RPM hill climbs on a cold engine. I'd stick with the OLM.

I go by mileage and UOA.. The computer only knows so much...

I`d gladly take one of those GM oil life monitor`s in my RX. I only have the dummy service required light every 5k.

I read an article to where the OLM said to change the oil at roughly the equivalent of 7500 miles? I will try to find it, but there's no way in heck I'm going 7500mi on a conventional with the type of driving I do.
The OLM on the Trailblazer is based on using conventional oil by the way. Maybe run semi syn and run all the way out to what it says.
Just use the OLM. As far as "driving habits dictating when you change it", well, that's what the OLM does!
Your Trailblazer holds 8 quarts (larger oil capacities can usually go longer between changes)
As Mark said, the OLM is not based on synthetic, just regular API-rated dino. BTW, now with SN, virtually all SN conventional is actually synthetic blend.
If you're STILL afraid to do it, then consider Pennzoil Dexos synthetic blend, available at Walmart for not too much money.

5k is a good time to dump it. 3k is early.
Be sure to use a highly efficient filter also
I'm using an AC Delco PF61E I believe right now, but next oil change I'm gonna use a K&N.
Run it 5k with confidence.

After I tried Pennzoil Conventional in my silverado, I decided to keep using it. Its a great oil, but used as a "quick clean" it may or may not work wonders. Mobil 1 cleans very good too.

Last OLM "event" on the Rainier had me at 11,500+ miles with 3% left. Lots of highway miles. Trust it. Run synthetic if you want better cold start protection(I want that), or better high-temp stability.
