In my 2004 SpecV sometimes I'll go 3000 miles without burning a drop of oil... sometimes it burns half a quart in 400 miles

I do check my oil all the time, at least twice a week because of this, sometimes I can spend the whole day autocrossing and it wont burn any oil, or I can take a 4 hour highway trip and it's half a quart low. Or yesterday at the drag strip it burned 3/4 of a quart. Weirdd

Maybe check your PCV System or since you do some autcrossing and take the car to the strip you may need to get a CATCH CAN.

Darn, beat me to it. I was going to say randomly aggressive driving. Hard to say with a wide variety of driving habits that range from normal to extreme. If you run wide open throttle off and on, some consumption should not be a surprise. As for the specifics of autocrossing no consumption and highway a lot I don't know.

I'm having a similar issue with my '89 Accord, first 2500 miles of oil change it doesn't burn a drop, then at 3000 miles i'm half a quart low, i'm at 4500 miles now and still just half a quart low, and this happens between every oil change at around the same number of miles.

+1. Try a different oil, and/or try changing driving habits. That is lighten up on the gas if you tend to get on the car.
