What Kind of Car Did You Learn Stick Shift On?

I learned on a 1961 International TravelAll. The gas pedal was missing so it was only the steel bar to depress. The clutch was set up very tight so letting it out just a bit engaged it. It was difficult to learn on but in return that made it much easier for me on later vehicles.

Started by driving lawn mowers..
Then moved up to a tractor..
Then it was 1974 F250 custom my dad drove

My first car that my parents gave me when I turned 16 was a 79 Toyota Corona, not corolla, it was a Corona. Ugliest car ever.

1994 Ford Ranger 5speed. Worst Transmission ever. After learning to drive stick in a Ranger everything else feels easy.

1957 Chevy 3 on the tree. Later on, I owned a 67 Dart, also with 3 on the tree. By then had also been using a 66 Chevy C10 with 4 spd. Today, 18 spd in my semi truck, but only automatics for personal vehicles. 2800 miles a week with the 18 spd, I have no desire to shift anything in my car or pickup.

76 VW Rabbit 4spd

The day I acquired my learners permit -365 then in Ontario- my dad gave me a long and detailed instruction. I got the nick of it fairly quickly, or so I thought, when he asked me to drive that evening to Toronto for the Argonauts football game. Baptism of fire of being scared sh*tless, panic, and several stalls taught me changing gears is only a small part of good driving skills. Dad drove home (bet the [censored] slept well).

There you go marines. Very nice car. Had one with a three speed and overdrive. Drove it up to Saratoga, Wyoming in May to work for R.R. Crow in the Snowy Range south of Ryan Park,Wyoming. Good summer job after grinding spring semesters. Dined on Cut Throats several times a week. Throw a small gold hook in the Middle French and had a nice fish fry in one of our six man tents. Treasured memories of times gone by when life seemed a lot simpler. Thank you Rusty,Gertie and Earl for some memorable experiences in the Medicine Bow. "Roll Out" or "Roll Out and Roll Em Up."

1955 Chevy Bel Air......my friend and pastor, taught me how to drive (at age 16) on his almost new Bel Air.

Shortly after I obtained my license (N.Y.), I purchased an older Dodge Dart stick.

The same 1966 Pontiac GTO in my signature. Test drove it and learned how to use a clutch at the same time, 36 years ago. It's still snug in my garage today.
