What is Your Severe Service Oil Interval?

I don’t consider my driving severe service because I do mostly highway and no short trips. But if I fell into the severe category the earliest I could see myself changing the oil would be 5000 miles.
Regarding your Civic, and mine, Honda doesn't have a "severe service" schedule for oil changes. The Owners Manual references CVT fluid changes at 25k miles if you live in the mountains, and they also reference changing air filters (cabin and engine) at 15k miles. Nothing for the engine oil, though. That said, I'm doing mine at 6 months, because almost all my driving is short trip, and my 1.5T does gas dilute the oil.

My Civic is the port injected 2.0 so it’s pretty easy on the oil and doesn’t have a dilution problem. If I had the 1.5 I wouldn’t likely be able to do 10k intervals.

Too bad Honda got rid of that engine. The new 2.0 is direct injected.
I don’t understand why they did that, they should not have messed with a good thing. If I replace my Civic with another one in the future I will have to stick with a 2024 or earlier in order to get it with port injection

The place I live in was quite rural when I moved here in 1973. Now it's pretty much suburban and I find myself waiting at traffic lights much more frequently. I change oil and filter when the OLM comes on, which is about 5,000 miles on my 2020 Chevy Equinox 2.0 GDI and that comes around once a year. I change oil and filter at this point. Conditions are about the same on my 2008 Honda Civic and it gets the once a year service, which is about 5,000niles.

I should add that my oil of choice is M 1 ESP 0W-30 and this is what I use.

Most manufacturers have already moved onto DI or at the least, MPI and DI. it’s only going to increase.
True, but there was a time in the late 2010's/early 2020's when Honda didn't have any port injected engines, only DI and DI with turbo.
Then they switched the game and went back to port injected engines for the Civic for a few years.

That’s not true at all

Severe service? Any time my wife drives the car.

She's currently in Wisconsin visiting our daughter, and headed to her sister's in Canada today. The OLM was at 80% when she left about 1.3k miles ago, and per HondaLink right now, is still at 80% with 7,330 total miles on the Pilot. It's on the second oil change since new (at 500 and 4.5k), and I'll change it again when she gets home to see if the UOA shows the wear metals continue trending downward. Currently running Amsoil SS and have enough on the shelf for two more OCIs, when I'll be switching over to HPL PPPCMO.

Interesting to see the consistency of Hyundai / Kia 1.6 Gama , 2.0 Nu & 2.4 Theta II engines when you push OCI’s to 5,000 miles . Their OCI sweet spot is down in the severe service range of 3,500 to 4,000 miles .
I have one 2.0T 75,000 miles. Equals new no cost to me engine, turbo, cat.

True - but here’s a side note : Having Hyundai / Kia potentially not treat you so well making you jump through hoops to prove your warranty claim , pay or not pay for a rental car smaller than your broken down Hyundai / Kia for up to several weeks , etc. would tend to make me want to do what I can to keep it running as best I can and avoid the hassle of warranty claims . The other school of thought is to do 5K mile OCI’s with Super Tech synthetic oil and never care if the engine drinks oil and grenades itself anytime it desires because you have 100% faith Hyundai / Kia are wonderful to deal with on any claims .

2016 Jeep Renegade is on the factory 4k mile severe service. It got a new motor at 82k because of oil burning, scored cylinders and low oil pressure. It was on factory MM at about 7500 miles and mostly dealer bulk 0W-20. Currently running Delo 5W-40 with enough on hand for 1 maybe 2 more OCI. I might run a VRP 5W-30 in it soon, then it will be part of the use up 5W-30 stash, M1 vanilla, PP Euro L. After that plan is to be on VRP 5w-30.

2019 Pilot currently on 5k change plan based on UOA's and fuel dilution. MM was showing 7500+ miles on 0W-20.
2021 Tucson on 3k/6 month, will change to 4k/6 month at next OC. Longer daily drives now and getting to temperature each trip. UOA's might change to more or less. Currently on VRP 5W-30 and plan to stick with that.

2008 CRV and 2017 Accord doing approximately 5k changes based on time/weather/schedules. Both running VRP.
