Voltage reading on the MonsterPower Powercenter on this July 4th eve:
Did the chiller use a vfd?Depends on time of day or night, as daytime can drop slightly, we used to monitor this at the large health care facility I worked at , the frequency can vary a bit to, during hot weather it was interesting when we kicked on a 4,000 ton chiller even with soft start ,it would dip some times till it recovered, one time we had a bad storm and lost all of our feeders (all 3 individual incoming),went up on gen. ,after storm passed and one feeder came back, we switched over (auto,) and manually and blew out a part of a substatio across town .,well back on emergency power, made for a long night.( we have 3 Cat generators ,2600 HP each),the voltage harmonics would sometimes vary in different parts of building too.
yes a lot of our equipment had variable frequency drives, as large AC fans etc ,medical equip. had line Freq. monitors also with line filters.Did the chiller use a vfd?
Could be. Low voltage = high current so it could have also been too much amperage in some circuit?Unbalanced load from a lost neutral. leg a could have dropped to 90v leg b shot up to 150v if the lights that dimmed were on leg a that would have been why.
My reading is from a Monster power surge protector and filter as well.Voltage reading on the MonsterPower Powercenter on this July 4th eve:

Hz can be checked with a multi meter that has the function
Yep I've seen that. Tree fell on the neighbors service drop. Some lights blew out, others dimmed and just about everything else that was plugged in fried.Unbalanced load from a lost neutral. leg a could have dropped to 90v leg b shot up to 150v if the lights that dimmed were on leg a that would have been why.
It's 95 degrees here now and the voltage has sagged to 118. The marginal price across the PJM interconnect is $49.21 per MWh. The marginal price is expected to peak at about $250 per MWh at 5 PM. This has proven to be an interesting experiment so I will check again in a couple of hours.Input voltage to my UPS was 122 at 8:00 AM but fell to 121 by 8:20. Will check again once we exceed 90 degrees outdoors.
