What is your favorite sleeper car?

The Estate does run mid 12's in the 100-teens. It would be quite capable of taking a stock 4th gen F-body. Not a Z06 however.

I agree, I don't think (and I wasn't thinking of F-body) that a Camaro could beat one, just not sure it would wipe the floor with it.
 
I think it is more the "what the heck, I just got beat by a WAGON????" factor

Hahahaha!!, come to think of it, it was a noisy motor even with the stock exhaust. And that Horrible pancake style GM Cat. Converter. What were they thinking with those friggin things?

That's why I like the new CTS-V wagon so much, too... along with the E63. Isn't there an S6 Audi wagon too, or am I making that up?

There is the BMW E61 M5 Touring as well (also a wagon), with 500HP/384lb-ft.

And yes, you are right on the Audi.

Wow, that must be all a Duke can do, short of a turbo I guess. Was the motor much lighter than the 6, or just easier to fit headers, etc back there? A guy in our club has a Fiero with an newer GM 3.5 V6 in it and he was giving our Elise owner fits trying to lose him on our track day. Not bad for a junkyard dog...
 
"My friend's older brother had a Monza with a V8. Allegedly a 350 but it could have just as easily been a 305 or a 262...I couldn't tell the difference then.

It was the notchback with round headlamps. Didn't look very good. Not compared to the hatchback version with 4 rectangular headlamps.

It had small tires that would be reduced to shredded rubber and belts if you pushed the skinny pedal on the right down and left it there...or maybe it was just the cheap tires he was using."




In 1975 California-only Monza's got a 125-HP 350 as their V-8 option.

And yeah, any v-8 powered H-boddy would smoke the tires, as they had virtually NO weight in the back. Even with 4-cylinder, fishtailing in the wet was bad on these cars....
 
While my Volvo T5 wagon isn't in the high performance sleeper category, it qualifies as a sleeper. 45 series tires, big brakes, 247 HP turbo in a 3100 lb car, it catches many by surprise...and the cops rarely point the radar gun at a wagon...

Perfect...

No [censored] the car would move. It was a built motor, basically a stock block and internals prepped and balanced with a really cool custom grind cam. Holley carb and a cute little header. Lots of head work. The 4 cylinder will hit the redline STOCK with a 4 speed manual trans! Weight is why I never even considered a V6. The stupid 2.8 motor was a dog anyway. I would love to have a properly prepped big displacement V6 in one. It would be mega fun!

But not a sleeper!

Absolutely agreed. I want to see the Volvo on this board with the GM all aluminum 5.3 and six speed auto!

I beg to differ, more so after Brabus or Renntech gets there hands on one.

Because the numbers don't tell it all, sometimes in the real world a 5k pound limo can stick with a Lambo. Even with 4 people in it, and a trunk full of luggage.

Now if they had Brabus unlock the 300ft pounds AMG capped off on that motor...I have a feeling the race might have been even more interesting. More so since those speeds are right in every Mercedes sweet spot, they are not geared for 0-60. Very few cars can pass one from 80-150 though.

The S65 AMG is a proper Q ship.

Nice install of the 5.0...but, while power/weight will be awesome...it's all going to be lost to wheelspin on launch!
 
^ True that! He'll need some serious rubber -- which will take away from the sleeper look. Either that, or run from a 40 mph roll, and never a dead stop.
