What is with the PU frenzy?

Man, you would think this stuff is the greatest oil ever the way so many are acting. Hey, I have nothing against Pennzoil and think PP is some darn good stuff. I hope PU lives up to all the hype and expectations. However, how about we wait to see how the PU actually does before we go so nuts. Man some of you are like pirhana's smelling blood in the water.

I agree, I mean I actually love the excitement, but why so many different threads? It LOOKS cheezy, or rather it makes BITOG look really silly.

Can the mods step in a bit here? Combine threads? Why do we need a new thread every time someone can or can't find it, or it's on discount, etc.?

Either start a whole PU section, "new" oil section, or one one long running thread.

It also DOES look stupid for the guys who have been around for awhile to get all weak in the knees for an oil that has yet to prove anything. I think PU looks great on paper, but have we learned nothing??

It has gone crazy and I agree about trying to combine threads. I do not believe it needs its own section. No oil does.

Probably what you were like the first time you saw a Purple bottle.

Actually, I was a pretty die hard user of another Castrol GTX oil and it took a lot of convincing from someone I trust( actually my speed shop guy )to even try it the 1st time. I had just rebuilt an engine and he asked what oil I was going to run. I said GTX like I always do. He convinced me to try the RP and I have never looked back after 20 years. It took him over a year though to convince me to try it.

Yet here we are, in another newly created thread about PU, complaining about all the other PU threads and how they need to be consolidated.

Actually I like the idea for all the koolaid drinkers to have their own subsection of the board.

Like Syn then Mobil, Pennzoil and so on. Then you can only sell spew comment with that brand in that sub section. If they are caught "commenting" with their favorite koolaid in another section then vacation time for them.

Would cut on some members post count here but would keep some of us from the "info". (and some of us sane)

And it would slow down on all the threads...

No have it have its own section too.

But you don't see the "enthusiasm"

of someone with Mobil 5000 or Pennzoil conventional as you see with PP or Mobil 1.

So you would not have to have the sub sections as detailed on the conventional side.

There might be something to a new forum for raving about your favorite brand of oil. The PCMO forum is out of hand and has been for a while.

Looking at the first four pages of this topical section, I see maybe five PU posts including this one. One is on seeing it in Charlotte, sure there should be a thread just on sightings of it perhaps...

One is on the bottle, one is on a pricing mistake, and one is on naming of the product, and then this one

Now if you look at the balance of Mobil 1, Pennzoil conventional, Valvoline, etc. threads, there are as many of those on the four pages I looked at as anyplace else.

This makes it tough for me o see the need to consolidate or move things around. If there are blatant analogous threads, please flag and they will be locked/combined to minimize parallel identical threads. However for the current moment at least, Im not seeing a real difference in threads for PU vs anything else.

One issue is how fast the PCMO section turns over. Maybe the search isnt the best, but workarounds definitely exist, and folks can look a few pages before they post too.

Hey it's a new toy for those interested. And of course there's always more excitement over a high-end oil than a conventional, people want to see what it can do/how far it can go.

My driving habits have made oils of this type a ridiculous choice, thanks to this very website I've learned not to spend $35 a jug when I'm going to change it so early anyways, so not for me.

But hey why be a wet blanket, this is an oil site, people are excited, let 'em talk about it! Don't see a problem here.

Bravo! I came here looking for objectivity, and it seems like lately its mostly cheer squads. I probably shouldn't single one out, but I'm going to: the whole Pennzoil thing has been the biggest distraction in my months on the board- first with Platinum and now with Ultra. I know Pennzoil has good products, but c'mon! GC may have been bigger, but it was before I joined so I only see references from long-time members.

Doesn't BITOG exist to be a forum for this very thing to occur, discussing new lubricants with like-minded individuals?
