What does it cost to take a class at community college in your state?

It will be $46 a unit starting this summer in California. A standard 3 unit class will cost $138, plus $2 campus fee, and $17 health fee so people can get free condoms. If you have a car add $40 for a parking permit. If you have 9 units or more per semester than you have to buy a bus pass for $35 even if you don't take the bus: Students are subsidizing the private bus company. Science and calculus classes are 5 units. Book prices are ridiculous. The math department has switched over to online homework, so that is another $60 per class, but they have a copy of the book online to read. I usually like to take filler classes so I can make something with my hands, but it isn't worth it anymore.

I just finished my degree at a community college last May. For most of my time there, in-county students paid $72/credit hour. In addition, some classes had 'lab fees' or 'course fees', which no one could ever really figure out. Just before I finished there, the per credit hour cost for in-county students raised to $82. But parking is free, and there are no health charges or anything like that. What's also nice is that next to each campus (there are 2 for this school) there is a book store that sells used books for a really good price. A great alternative to the book store inside the school.

I went to Macomb Community College. AFAIK, Macomb is still cheaper than any of the surrounding counties' community college prices (Oakland, Wayne, and St. Clair).

A lot of my friends going after 4-year degrees take as many classes as possible in community colleges and transfer them over, just because it is still a LOT cheaper. I can't believe how much classes at the major universities cost, and they get higher every single year. My degree is an associates, and thankfully I was able to graduate with no debt whatsoever.

I heard they cut many classes at city college (CCSF). It is $46 per unit now, recent increase. Back when I started at city college it was like $11/unit, then later on went to $22 and $26. I parked in the residential area and walked so didn't need to pay for parking.

It is worth it. You have the internet at your fingertips. Smartphones have barcode scanner apps that let you do searches on price of all your books. Used to get fasfa and BOG waivers CAlifornia aid--if you are already 25 usually regardless of income. Take classes with people you know from your job or neighbors, family etc. Share the burdens, everyone saves everyones makes themselves a little better. If none of them are interested in taking regular clases someone will still want to take welding or weight lifting.

$130 per credit hour plus $10.00 parking fee. Now that I'm at the University I'm paying $948.00 per credit hour plus lab fees of $100.00, a general fee of $150.00 and a infrastructure fee of $80.00 plus books.

I remember Chabot College in Hayward costing around $3 or $5 a unit. That was late 1970s. You didn't have to be an adult to take classes there. You could pay $3 and swim all day for a whole semester.

I went to community college in Illinois in mid 70's then transferred to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 2 years later. The total fees for full time student(12+ credit) was less than CC if I took 18-19 credit hours or more.

It was so weird that the cost of one of the 10 best Electrical Engineering university in US was less than CC.

$150 for a credit at my local CC Alex Tech, $218 per credit at MN State Moorhead/Mankato.

Community Colleges are great for students that need a 2 year degree and many are now offering a 4 year degree in certain majors.

What is your college major ?

I plan to first get an AS in Science. Once I get that I will have all the lower requirements to get into a University. Most likely Mechanical Engineering, but there seems to be different specialties even in ME. It depends on which University I can afford after college. Each University offers a different type of Mechanical Engineering.

I might even go to a University in Idaho, Nevada, or Montana. Someplace I can hunt and fish and own guns.

Two 5 credit classes Eng101 and Comp110 cost me $1048 for the quater.
That is for a resident. The College is in Bremerton Wa.
I currently am a GS-12 and work as an electronics tech at Subase Bangor, but didn't want my G.I. bill to go to waste so I am taking more classes. Trying to get some kind of IT degree.

I'm not wanting to offend anyone but the prices mentioned thus far are very low. It shouln't be an issue to take 60 credits at 100 bucks a pop, get a degree and make that back in a year or two.... probably [hopefully] in a job you like better.

Seriously maybe it irks you to have to buy a bus pass or the book is 85 dollars or some online course fee but in the end if you make back what it costs who cares. Don't be penny sensitive and pound stupid.

129 for in-state residents. This summer i will be taking 2 courses at 3 credits each, it's about 850. I will walk a little to save $75 parking fee.
