What is the cheapest oil per quart??

When you consider the liability you take upon yourself just touching someone's car, you are better off not doing the oil change than to not get paid. Folks that respond to el-cheapo oil change specials will never spend good money with you. They'll drop you like a hot potato if it will put a nickel in their pocket.

From my taxi days I know quite a few around here that will do $10 cash oil changes if you bring your own dope and filter. Yet, I prefer to give $20 cash for the same deal to a guy I like and he is thorough and very competent mechanic. He is employed as such and he does these and other jobs on a side in a very well equipped shop on his days off with the full blessing of the owner. I appreciate his effort and there is a lot of added value: he always is on top of other things in my vehicles. I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Mokanic: do not give yourself away for nothing. Macdonalds jobs are more lucrative.

I have an uncle who works on high end cars exclusively. He has a small shop that he runs off his property in a large pole barn.

He has a deal with the local napa to get all the parts delivered right to his building.

The guys with the high end import cars don't mind paying $9 per quart for Mobil 1, or $6 per quart for Castrol GTX.

I don't see you making any money on a $18 oil change unless your labor is free, and you don't have any costs to run the building. Unless you are getting an upsell on every customer.

There are some dealerships here that will do a 10 or 15 dollar oil change, but they make it up by up-selling on a ton of other services that people buy. You need a lot of volume to make money doing it this way.

We even have a toyota dealer here that runs months ever year where they do free oil changes on toyota. No thanks.
