What is the best way to get rid of a squirrel?

Wonder if he doesn't think the same about his owner.

It is quite possible...

Yup, that's what we have, two of those, one with a cheap scope on it, but it does the job.

When I was a kid, with our cottage, we had a major squirrel issue and my grandfather was keen on us eradicating them around the place. So there was a solid 10 year period there, every summer, where we spent almost every day, for a couple of months, doing squirrel control.

I'm not going to get into detail, because I doubt it's appropriate for the board, but it was a head shot at about 80 yards, the rifle was zeroed for 100 and I didn't quite adjust enough so it was a little bit high. He landed about 10ft from where he was when I made the shot, didn't even twitch.

Love opossums. They're nature's garbage men, immune from rabies (Virus can't survive in them because of their low body temp) and are true survivors.

I have two of the break barrels...one Crossman and one Hatsan. Both are rated for 1000 fps and they will destroy a squirrel. Heck, these things will take down a skunk, which is the animal we have problems with in our neighborhood...our dog got sprayed by one last summer...

Not really sure how effective that would be since squirrels can climb pretty much everything. My house is in a subdivision so I'm sure there is some liability issues with having an electric fence accessible to the kids around there.

No I mean run the wire around the areas where the squirrel is chewing by stapling it to the wood areas it likes to chew, it looks like it's somewhere on your roof or high up away from children. Not at ground level as an electric fence.

Obviously, there is a housing shortage in the neighborhood. Build a squirrel nest or two and they may leave you alone.

If you were to get one of these and run each wire with about 1" of gap between them stapled to the areas where you need protection when the squirel connects the circuit between the two exposes wires it will get zapped.

This guy is using it in a bird feeder but you can use it however you need. The box is cheap and the wire is cheap and it's easy to install with a staple gun.
Use aluminum wire so it doesn't rust.

I use this one: 24" Humane Animal Trap Steel Cage for Small Live Rodent Control Rat Squirrel

Same thing for mice, put traps outside the home in addition to the indoor ones.

Good idea. I will go buy another trap and put it outside. The trap I am using has two doors, one on each end but I was only using one door and putting the food on the other side of the trip plate. I instead put the peanut butter directly on the trip plate and stuck peanuts in the peanut butter and have it set up so that both doors are open. This is how the manufacturer recommends.

Today I found that the squirrel pushed some of the boards off that I had put over the hole that was near the rear deck.

THIS! Mine takes out squirrels no problem. They never make it more than 5 feet from where they are shot.

The problem with shooting this squirrel is that even though I own this home, I don't live there so being there to see the squirrel is very unlikely. I also have been told that I need to be careful about killing the squirrel since it's not squirrel season right now and I could get in trouble if someone sees me. I may have to hire a professional to get rid of it if I don't catch it soon. I found out today that my home insurance does not cover this damage so I need to get rid of it soon.

I was quotes $600 to get rid of a rat. That includes 3 visits. If not caught in 3 visits it will cost more.

Your squirrel problem looks a lot worse than my rat problem as far as house damage.

Most squirrels live in nests in trees. Why does this squirrel want to get into your house?
