Hey- just wanted a quick answer. Im convinced the best filter for my 1997 VW jetta 2.0 is the MANN OEM filter, but i don't want to spend 8 dollars on a filter. Whats the best bang for the buck? i run 3k or 6 month changes on my jetta, and it sees harsh driving conditions in GA traffic, and sees the track weekly on summers, it's my every day driver. Every sugestions?

If your OEM is a rip off, try Delco or Motorcraft. Great filters for $3-$4.
You should search, this type of question has been asked many many times and you'll get all sorts of answers.
my opinion:
Low budget best: Supertech, purolator premium plus.
Mid budget: wix/napa gold, purolator pureone
Money is of no concern: Mobil 1 (Debatable)

The best commonly available oil filter is Amsoil EaO. Nothing wrong with the old M1 filter, but it is not as good at flow or filtering as the EaO.

If I were buying filters for my own Jetta 2.0 I'd buy the Mahle-Knecht OC 264 for $5.02 each or the Mann-Hummel W719/30 for $5.63 each.
These are mail order prices that ship out of Smyrna, Ga, and you'll get them next day.
I simply don't fool with aftermarket filters for Euro cars anymore.

Many on this board are Amsoil users...I think possibly thousands. Some for well over 3 decades. The Amsoil EaO filters are showing some real world positives.
I look forward to any product that changes for the better-equiptment life and reduces labor costs and oil related disposal. The EaO filter could be one of those products.

If Pablo said it, I would listen .. And agree 99% of the time..
Look up my posts, you find that I am Mr. dino and Supertech filters as I find they do the job that the average engine NEEDS to make it to 300k and beyond with great performance.
BUT, I have NEVER seen Pablo "push" (stating that it's Amsoil or the junkyard if you run anything else) Amsoil or not recommend other brands of oil and filters when they will do the job.
I think you need to read some of his posts.
(and you would see that quite a few of his 15k+ posts DO NOT EVEN say the word Amsoil..)

And I would agree with Pablo on this one too, the EaO filter is one of the "best" if not the best.

Amsoil EaO filters are now what I use(air and oil). I don't care about the cost. All I want is that warm fuzzy feeling knowing my vehicles are protected with products (Amsoil) which I believe are superior.
